WHO Daphne Greengrass, Glynis Greengrass, Dean Thomas, Astoria Greengrass, Terence Higgs
WHEN 6 July 2005 | all day (specific for thread, eveningtime)
WHERE Daphne's home
RATING G/PG
She had noticed the night before but thought little of it, cramps had been easing in and out for nearly a week and they were getting tedious. The midwife had informed her they were perfectly normal and she didn't bother to inform Hermia when they once more started; even when they continued in the morning. No, Daphne did not take notice until the far off sort of discomfort became sharp. There was no gush of water, no great revelation, she just knew that they had not hurt as they had then. The midwife, even at that, took her time coming, suggested she not start the chain of people just in case it was another false alarm. By the time she had looked her over, the midwife knew she was in labor but again, she advised not to tell too many as she was hardly dilated and it would be quite some time. The midwife left then with strict instructions to contact her as soon as the pains were five minutes apart; which seemed to take days to Daphne. She did not bother with telling anyone, not even thinking of going to St. Mungo's (considering she doubted she'd be admitted), almost unbelieving that it had happened (and so soon! she was not due until the first of August! but the midwife told her she was in a perfectly acceptable time period to do so) started, but as the pain became to intense Daphne did contact her mother knowing full well the chain of events would take place for everyone else to be told. Sure enough when the midwife made her return, Daphne felt there were too many people present and ended up maliciously screaming for everyone to get out and only her mother had the constitution to shoo everyone out leaving it only her and the midwife. The labor was not long once it was time to push, but Daphne wondered if she would be attempting so again; it was hard and tedious, she felt as though she was working hard for a goal that was not coming. Until it did. He was a gooey mess, which was as far as she could see at first, and then there were tears. As gooey and face-mashed as he was, he was beautiful. The midwife wiped and checked him over before wrapping him in a blanket while Daphne finished delivering [the placenta] before returning him once more to her arms. She hardly noticed then her mother and the midwife pick up the room, or her mother opening the door to allow people in; exhaustion and adrenaline coursed through her, and the tiny little man in her arms. |
