“Breakfast?” Draco whined and then grabbed the nearest food item. The strange ribbon-like candy shattered as his first bite. “Now?” was barely intelligible.

“Could I at least get a cup of coffee, please?”

“Ok, you get coffee. I’ll go sort out the presents.” Draco made a beeline for the tree and the stack of gifts.

Finally, armed with coffee Harry settled himself into his favorite chair. The blond tornado unwrapped with lightning speed. He gushed and cooed in all the right places, but looked around surreptitiously as Harry finished.

“What’s wrong?” Harry asked.

“Just making certain, we didn’t miss anything.” Draco lied.

Harry dug into his pyjama bottom pocket. “Like this, perhaps?”

“Bastard!”

“You’re sitting on the floor starkers, except for a pair of socks with your bits covered by your Christmas stocking and it was a slight accident?”

“I was looking for something.” Draco huffed.

“Well, you did find your stocking and those weird socks.” Harry grinned.

“Yes, well the stocking was the obvious place for a small package.”

Harry’s grin widened. “If you come back to bed I’ll give you a large package.”

“Subtle, Potter.”

“About as subtle as snooping like a five-year old. Come on we’ll find your small package in the morning.”

“Technically, it is morning.” Draco muttered.

Title: Ever Fruitcake

Severus crossed his ankles and sipped his beer while he waited for Remus. It was no hardship as he looked out over Sydney Harbor from their hotel room terrace. Remus returned and wore a ridiculous grin that was almost contagious. Carrier bags were emptied onto the table: sausage rolls, green curry meat pies, seafood pizza, fried calamari, Pavlova and a fruitcake.

"Pavlova and a fruitcake?" Severus queried.

"They have fruitcake here all year 'round." Remus answered breathily. "Groom's cake." He reached into his pocket and produced a small box. The top snapped open to reveal a three stone step-cut emerald ring in platinum. Remus looked frightened and hopeful. "So will you?"

"No! I'm just trying to knock some sense into you!" Remus responded with another volley of snowballs.
"I know good sense!" Severus ducked and grabbed his own handful of snow.
"Obviously, you don't! Otherwise, we'd be drinking mulled wine in front of a roaring fire and I'd be attempting to get you out of those multi-buttoned disasters you call robes!"
Severus gaped. "Disasters? Have you looked at your threadbare hairy arse in the mirror lately?"
"I'll have you know my arse is not hairy! I'll even let you see for yourself!"

Severus wrapped a cloak and his arms around himself against the chill of the morning air. It was the dawn on the morning of the Winter Solstice and he had made a habit over the years of watching the sunrise. This morning the event was particularly stunning. He imagined this was what Muggles thought heaven must look like. It was unlikely, that if the place existed, he was unlikely to see it. He thought about his warm bed and the ridiculously named werewolf that kept it that way. His small slice of heaven, as it happened, was right here on earth.
