The ball room was decked out in decorations for the new year. Silver and gold streamers were hanging in the air. Glittering lights were lit in the chandeliers. The food tables along the southern wall were laden with food and drink customary to New Years, wines, champagnes, and punches for those who were not fond of alcohol. The foodstuffs mostly consisted of leftovers from Christmas, though there were some fresh-made biscuits and other, classier, forms of snacks as well. The ceiling above had taken the guise of a starry night, matching the one above, complete with a full moon. At midnight a display of magical fireworks would go off outside, and be mirrored in the ceiling. On the eastern wall was where the record player sat, playing forms of classical music (both wizarding and muggle), and beside it were the two pillars. The balcony up above was where the King's throne had been temporarily moved to, and he sat there in his black robes with gold trim, and a golden mask covering the better part of his face underneath his customary hood. Lena, his firstmost servant, stood in a flowing red dress with silver trim and matching red mask with silver feathers against the eastern wall, by the record player with a cheerful smile on her face. The Knights stood on the west wall, as silent and watchful as ever. After the fireworks were finished, at just past midnight and the beginning of the year 1002, the King gave a short speech to his people. He stood from his seat, overlooking the ballroom, and spoke, "This past year did not, perhaps, go as well as we all might have wished for it to. But this is a new year, and this new year shall bring new strength and fulfillment to the Kingdom. For a brighter new year!" The Knights, and Lena cheered out as well. |
