CI >> Izzy Hallward
Say hey to Izzy! He is the proprietor of the local chow staple, Ruby's Diner. He also sets the menu, so leave an impression on him and you can be immortalized by having a sandwich or something named after you. He is a single father of two beautiful children. He hails from Tennessee, so his accent is probably just as foreign to Washingtonians (yes, I am afraid this is what we are called) as most members of AM's.

He is so suited to small town life! Be assured that he knows the name of his mailman, the checkers at the local grocery store, his bank tellers, all his kids' teachers, etc etc etc. He keeps track of facts regarding people without even trying to. He is totally a nosy grandmother on the inside, something his kids never hesitate to point out to him. He just wants to see everyone happy is all.

Izzy powered himself through some magical food poisoning and now has the ability of photographic reflexes. Which means if he sees someone perform a task he can perform it, too. It takes a lot of repetition to make the muscle patterns stick, though. He procures the drugs that keep him in control of himself from The Network and is doing his absolute damnedest to stay off of AM's radar. Somehow, in his mind, being connected to a drug-dealing black market is preferable to speaking with a government agency.

The Facts Were These:

1) He is on a first name basis with pretty much everyone who works at the nearest hospital. Watching all those parkour videos really set him up...
2) He owns the cutest dog in existence, an overweight bulldog named Ruby Belladonna. She's only a few years old but usually has to be carted around in a stroller/wheelbarrow contraption on account of her doggie asthma.
3) Izzy suffers from human asthma in a major way. And is a total dumbass when it comes to carrying his inhaler.
4) Is really domestically helpful. He can darn, knit, scrub, repair, cook, you name it. Generally, he's too tired to do any of that, but it is within his capabilities.
5) Speaks a liiiiittle Spanish, but aside from that, he only speaks English and Hillpeople.
6) Big Harry Potter fan. He got spoiled about Snape killing Dumbledore and still hasn't fully recovered.

What book are you on?

Last one, about a quarter of the way through.

One day to yourself should be enough to power through it. Then you'll be up to speed for the part one of the movie.

Yeah, I plan on taking a 'sick day' if November rolls around and I'm still regularly falling asleep in my book two paragraphs in...

Falling asleep? I couldn't put it down...even the rereads. Try caffeine.

No, I mean, it's really good, but I don't get too much time to read, except before bed.

Yeah? I try to stay away from it, but I'll give it a whirl.

I think finishing one of the most popular fantasy series is worthy enough for a day off. Mateo looks like he can handle it.

Maybe I'll take Tuesday off. Tuesdays are usually pretty dead.

So you read all the books already?

'Course. PoA's my favorite, I think. What's yours?

Well... Don't stone me, but I liked Order of the Phoenix best. I started reading them after my kids nearly lost their minds over Goblet of Fire, so the Order one was the first I had to wait for. And the world just gets so much bigger... And Lupin's my favorite character...

I swear, I never was this much of a nerd before. Something about raising a teenager makes people un-hip.

Mmm, OotP... Not my favorite, but I think that's largely due to Umbridge. Ugh, hate her. Lupin's a sweetie, though, I think Luna's my favorite, or Snape...or Ron...

Please. Harry Potter is like... like Pokemon. It's not just for kids.

She's despicable. But pretty well-described, I think. I've certainly known ladies like her...

Snape... Guess I see where he's going, but what's to like in somebody that bitter? He's just gotta get over whatever's happened to him.

You play Pokemon, too?

That's exactly why I hate her! Rowling wrote her so well, she just-- Argh! Props to her for making a character so hate-able, though.

We can have a nerdy discussion about it once you've finished the books, I don't wanna give anything away. ... Though, going this long without having it shoved in your face is pretty impressive.

Uh, yeah. Not competitively or anything, but it's fun.

The cat plates... They get me every time...

Okay. I look forward to it.

I'm a master at woolgathering~ It's why Harry Potter's the only books I'd consider my speed. I try reading anything more complicated and my eyes cross.

I think Mike's got an old gameboy around here... It'd be nice to have something to do when I'm loitering behind the counter.

...that's what pikachu is from, right?

"Hem hem."

Well, when you're done with DH, there's also um, supplemental readings. The one about magical creatures is my favorite. Haven't gotten to the quidditch one yet.

Haha, yeah. By old, you mean the one that came out for Blue and Red?

"Hem hem." Gives me shivers. And the woman in the movie did it perfect. Sounds just like my mother-in-law.

We've got the short story collection about Bertie Bott or someone or other. Are the monster and quidditch supplements in that?

I think so. It's pretty bulky compared to the new Nintendo system. It's purple, too, and sorta see-through. But I remember getting Mike the yellow game, so I know we have that.

Oh, wow. That sucks.

Bertie Bott...'s jelly beans, I don't think he has a-oh, no, that's The Tales of Beedle the Bard. They're all different books.

Oh my gosh, that's so nostalgic..! Missing number, haha... I miss Bulbasaur.

It sucks big-time, let me tell you.

[sigh!] All those crazy names...

Really? You're welcome to borrow it. Mike'll never notice, and I already picked the wrong pokemon. I went with the turtle.

I kinda think you oughta be able to see rats and pigeons in the grass, though.

Sorry, man.

Some of them are pretty memorable, though, you gotta admit.

Aw, thanks, but I still have mine...somewhere. But what's wrong with Squirtle?

True. Maybe it's tall, weedy grass- the kind you need a machete for.
