Characters: All students (plus NPCs if you feel the need to use them).
Setting: In front of the castle at 4pm, later developing to the Entrance Hall and Great Hall.
Summary: The delegations from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrive. The Welcoming Feast is held, and Dumbledore introduces the Goblet of Fire.
Status: IC/OOC reactions.
The school bell rang half an hour earlier, giving time for the students to deposit their bags and books in their dormitories, pulling on their cloaks and assembling at the entrance hall. The Heads of Houses ordered their students into lines, arranged by year (first years in front, seventh last), and once everything was ready the four groups filed down the steps and lined up in front of the castle.
The Beauxbatons delegation was the first to arrive, on a powder-blue carriage pulled through the air by a dozen golden Abraxan flying horses. A male student jumped down from the carriage and unfolded a set of golden steps, springing back respectfully while Madame Maxime exited the carriage, leading to Dumbledore prompting the Hogwarts students into giving her a welcoming round of applause. After Madame Maxime and Dumbledore greeted each other, the twelve Beauxbatons students (the boy who unfolded the steps having joined the others) lines up behind their headmistress, all of them shivering with cold and looking at the Hogwarts castle with some apprehension.
After the Beauxbatons delegation headed towards the Great Hall in order to warm themselves up, the Hogwarts students remained in place waiting for the Durmstrang group. However, it would take quite a while before their transportation, a skeletal-looking ship, surfaced from the lake. From inside the ship soon came Karkaroff and his twelve students, all looking rather bulkier than they actually are due to their heavy fur cloaks. As everybody headed for the Great Hall to join the Beauxbatons group, many Hogwarts students began jumping and peering to get a good look at Krum.
Once at the Great Hall, the Durmstrang students sat at the Slytherin table, those from Beauxbatons having chosen to sit with Ravenclaw. Once everyone was settled, and since a lot of time had passed since the first school's arrival, the Welcoming Feast began. The house elves excelled themselves this time, preparing dishes from the various countries of origin of the visiting students.
Once everybody had eaten, Dumbledore introduced Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch 8who had arrived at the beginning of the feast), and Filch brought in a wooden casket. The Goblet of Fire was produced from within the casket and placed on top of it, while Dumbledore said:
As you know, three champions compete in the tournament, one from each of the participating schools. They will be marked on how well they perform each of the Tournament tasks and the champion with the highest total after task three will win the Triwizard Cup. The champions will be chosen by an impartial selector... the Goblet of Fire.
Anybody wishing to submit themselves as champion must write their name and school clearly upon a slip of parchment, and drop it into the Goblet. Aspiring champions have twenty-four hours in which to put their names forward. Tomorrow night, Halloween, the Goblet will return the names of the three it has judged most worthy to represent their schools. The Goblet will be placed in the Entrance Hall tonight, where it will be freely accessible to all those wishing to compete.
To ensure that no underage student yields to temptation, I will be drawing an Age Line around the Goblet of Fire once it has been placed in the Entrance Hall. Nobody under the age of seventeen will be able to cross this line.
Finally, I wish to impress upon any of you wishing to compete that this Tournament is not to be entered into lightly. Once a champion has been selected by the Goblet of Fire, he or she is obliged to see the Tournament through to the end. The placing of your name in the Goblet constitutes a binding, magical contract. There can be no change of heart once you have become a champion. Please be very sure, therefore, that you are whole-heartedly prepared to play before you drop your name into the Goblet. Now, I think it is time for bed. Goodnight to you all.
