Characters: All students (plus NPCs, if needed).
Setting: The Great Hall, from 8pm to midnight.
Summary: The Yule Ball!
Status: IC/OOC reactions.
Before eight o'clock, the Entrance Hall began to pack with students, most of them walking around the place in search of their dates. The Beauxbatons students arrived early, while the Durmstrang delegation, led by Karkaroff, crossed the oak doors shortly before the appointed time. From their journey towards the castle, foreign students would have been able to enjoy the sight of a fairy-covered rose garden with life-sized statues of Father Christmas and his reindeer.
At eight o'clock exactly, Professor McGonagall called the champions and their dates, and had them stand on one side of the doors to the Great Hall, as said doors opened and the remaining students entered. Inside, everything was rearranged to fit the occasion:
The walls of the Hall had all been covered in sparkling silver frost, with hundreds of garlands of mistletoe and ivy crossing the starry black ceiling. The house tables had vanished; instead, there were about a hundred smaller, lantern-lit ones, each seating about a dozen people. It was only once everyone else was inside that the champions and their dates were allowed to enter in procession and made to join the judges (well, most of them, since Percy Weasley was replacing an absent Bartemius Crouch) at a round table at the end of the Hall.
When all the food had been consumed, Dumbledore stood up and asked the students to do the same. Then, at a wave of his wand, the tables zoomed back along the walls, leaving the floor clear, and then he conjured a raised platform into existence along the right-hand wall. A set of drums, several guitars, a lute, a cello and some bagpipes were set upon it.And once the champions and their dates were in position, the Weird Sisters began to play a slow, mournful tune. It didn't take long for everybody else to join them (including the bizarre pairings of Dumbledore and Madame Maxime, or Mad-Eye Moody and Professor Sinistra).
The Weird Sisters now trooped up onto the stage to wildly enthusiastic applause; they were all extremely hairy, and dressed in black robes that had been artfully ripped and torn.
When the Weird Sisters finished playing at midnight, everyone gave them a last, loud round of applause, and started to wend their way into the Entrance Hall. Many people were expressing the wish that the ball could have gone on longer[...].
