Who: Victor and OTA
Where: The Pool!
When: Tuesday afternoon, June 29
What: Vic may not be a crocodile but he does like to swim. Especially when it helps cool off during a way too hot day.

With the temperature in the 90's, even Victor had to agree it was too warm out. And he usually liked the heat. Even so, while others were inside with the air conditioning, Victor stayed outside.

He got in some exercise with some of the others. Lunch was enjoyed in a nice, shady spot on the school grounds as well. He went back inside for training but once that was open it was time to head back outside. He chose to head to the pool. In his swim suit, the lizard teen was swimming laps around the pool and was in a good mood. Even if it was hot, the pool helped cool him down.

It was far too hot for Jean-Paul's liking. Coming from the cold north of Québec and with a powerset that left his body temperature a few degrees higher than normal, he was comfortable in cooler temperatures than many people would be, but he was uncomfortable in the heat. There was air conditioning inside, but the restless young man couldn't stay indoors all the time. At least he, unlike most of the other students here, had the option of flying up where the air was thinner and cooler; he was heading outdoors to do so, dressed in linen shorts and a soft blue shirt that were considered more for comfort than for fashion, though he didn't really own anything that didn't make him look good. He was definitely vain enough to be sure of that.

The splashing from the pool drew his attention before he lifted off, and he went over, half hoping to be treated to the sight of Piotr swimming again. But no, it was the green lizard-like boy; JP knew him by sight, at least, if not by name quite yet. He leaned against the fence around the pool, in no particular hurry, and quietly watched the boy swim. Jean-Paul himself had never learned to swim and wasn't really comfortable in the water, though it did look nice and he was almost tempted to go in himself, just for the coolness. He didn't, though, just watched with some degree of curiosity to see how the younger boy did it, in case he ever wanted to try swimming in the future.

At first, Victor didn't notice he was being watched. He just continued his laps. While the green teen wouldn't be joining any swim teams, he had good form and decent speed. Eventually that feeling of being watched registered with Victor. Slowing to a stop at the edge of the pool, he shook his head and then looked around.

"Uhh...hey," the lizard-like mutant greeted when he finally saw JP. Victor knew JP's name and sight even if he hadn't actually spoken to him before. The younger mutant was a little bit of a fan after all and had been paying a little closer attention ever since he heard that rumor about what happened at the prom. "Coming for a swim? The water's nice and cool," he offered, not getting a good look at what Jean-Paul was wearing just yet.

Jean-Paul inclined his head in greeting, moving around to the gate to enter the pool deck. "Hello," he answered. "Thank you, no. I don't swim. I've nevair learned." Nonetheless, he moved closer and seated himself at the edge of the pool with his bare feet just touching the surface of the water, leaning down to offer a hand for the reptilian boy to shake. "Jean-Paul Beaubier," he introduced himself briefly, though he rather expected most of the students to know who he was. After all he was famous, if less so now than he had been last year. "I've seen you 'ere at the school, but I don't think I learned your name." He lifted an eyebrow expectantly.

Victor was surprised by this news, finding it strange at first that someone wouldn't know how to swim. After a moment he reasoned that not everyone would've wanted to learn or had the chance so he let it. When JP offered his hand, Vic quickly shook it. "I'm Victor Borkowski," he introduced himself. "So, what brings you out to the pool if you don't swim?" he asked curiously.

"Victor," JP repeated, to fix the name in his memory. "Enchanté." He gave the green boy a small smile, still watching him with interest. "I was on my way to fly, but I 'eard you swimming," he told Vic. "I thought per'aps it was my friend in the pool, but no." He shrugged as if to say 'what can you do?'. "But you swim well," he told the younger boy. The compliment was genuine; he'd admired the way the kid handled himself in the water. "Is this a part of your mutation, or no?"

Victor returned the smile, mood improving quite a bit. "Sorry I wasn't who you were looking for," he said with a little shrug as well. He hauled himself up onto the edge of the pool near JP and shivered a moment at the sudden chill. His cheeks went a little darker green for a moment at the compliment but Victor kept his smile. "Thanks. It's not part of my mutation, no. It's all me," he laughed a bit and jokingly flexed a little. "Been swimming since I was a little kid."

Jean-Paul watched the younger boy hoist himself out of the pool, taking the opportunity to check him out covertly. Victor was cute if you liked them young, skinny, and green, he decided, but his tastes ran to the sturdier sort. He just nodded, keeping his expression of polite interest and his eyes fixed on Victor. "When you begin a sport at a young age, I think it's the best," he remarked. "Myself, per'aps it would be difficult to learn now, no? I think I 'ave no need of learning to swim, though." He shifted a little, dipping his feet below the water for a moment to savor the coolness; it would be nice to get in, but for lack of a bathing suit he was content to sit here. "Did you compete in the swimming?" he inquired, letting his gaze flicker down over Victor's body again. He didn't seem terribly athletic, but he wasn't as scrawny as he could have been; maybe there was more strength in that body than it looked like.

Victor didn't seem to notice being checked out. He never thought anyone would so he didn't keep an eye out for it. "That's how you got as good as you are, right? Starting early and working hard to build up skill?" he asked. He then shook his head a bit. "Not really. Swimming isn't that hard to learn. A couple lessons and you'd atleast be able to hang around in the pool or ocean with no fear of sinking," he said.

When asked about competing, Victor looked down at the water for a moment and shook his head once more. "No..." he trailed off. "I've been like this since I was really little," he said, gesturing at himself. "I wasn't allowed in any sports because my mutation gave me an 'unfair advantage' over the others. So all the sports I got in were just for fun and working out."

"I see," JP answered, his eyebrows raised a little. He hadn't been aware that there were students here who'd had their mutations become evident at an early age and had grown up with them. In some ways that must have been easier, since for many mutants he'd met, it had been traumatic when their powers had manifested, and Victor must have avoided that -- but in other ways, being so different from such a young age must have been unimaginably hard. As a former foster child and a perpetual outsider, Jean-Paul could relate to that, and he looked at Victor with greater understanding and even a little respect.

He cocked his head at Victor, curious about his past. "Still, your family kept you despite the mutation?" he asked. "And you went to school with the other children, looking as you do, and 'ave survived it? I think this isn't usual."

Victor took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. Fairbury was pretty laid back about the whole mutant thing. Other than a couple kids making fun of me and a few old people that can't stand anything outside how the world was when they were young, they didn't care that I was all green and lizard-like," he explained. "School was a pain though."

"Well, until about a year or so ago. Some new people moving into town were really anti-mutant and there were some issues coming up so my parents sent me here."

Jean-Paul looked down into the pool, considering. "Your parents must love you," he told Victor. "I think you're very lucky in that. It isn't very easy, to be different, but many of us could 'ide it to make it easier. That your 'ometown accepted you as you are, you must be very lucky." He glanced up at Victor again. "Do you like it 'ere? I suppose it's very different from your 'ome." He was always curious about other people's family lives, as his had been practically nonexistent.

Victor went quiet, looking down into the pool as well. "Yeah...they do," he replied. Of course he was still worried if that love would last. There were things they didn't know about him after all.

He was a bit surprised by the question about the current location and offered a smile. "Yeah. Xavier's is great. Fairbury's nice and all but it's boring. I was the most exciting thing in town," he chuckles. "And it's great to finally be around other mutants. People who know what it's like being so different. Plenty to see and do around here," he said. There was a pause before Victor tilted his head to the side. "What about you? Do you like it here?"

"Yes," Jean-Paul answered, without even having to think about it, which surprised him a little. He lifted one shoulder in a half-shrug. "I 'aven't been in a real school since years ago," he added in explanation. "And as a child, I was nevair in one place for long enough to 'ave friends, and then later it was too much training and competition. This is very..." He waved his hand in the air, unable to think of just the right word. "Different," he finished. "I do like it."

He shook his head a little -- he hadn't really meant to share so much of what he thought, not in front of this boy he didn't even know. Drawing his feet up onto the edge of the deck again, he gave Victor a smile. "I think I'll go to fly now," he informed him. "I've interrupted your swimming enough."

Victor listened with interest, smiling a little the whole time. "Well, I'm glad you found here and that you like it here," he said with a nod. "It's a good place."

He returned the smile and waved a hand slightly. "Don't worry about it. I've enjoyed our little talk," he said. "We could hang out again sometime if you'd like," he offered.
