Who: Tandy and Tyrone, (NPC: various shady figures >_>) When: December 2008 Where: New York City, various/unknown What: SECRET ORIGINS! Tandy and Tyrone on the night their powers were awakened. They each meet a kind stranger in the dark, not knowing a thing about this stranger but seeking comfort from one another unknowingly.
Today was a nice day- and the perfect day to go looking for somewhere to live until she turned eighteen. Sixteen-year-old Tandy was thankful for the most recent place of residence she had taken for generously allowing her to stay, but the church she was currently living at was relatively small and didn't have much extra room. Sure they said pulled her weight, helping out when she could with charity events and cleaning the church, but Tandy was better off than most runaways, a fact she was aware of. She had planned ahead, and actually had the money to stay somewhere until she was old enough to claim her inheritance. As such, Tandy felt it was time for her to move out of her room at the church and into a place of her own.
But a day worth of searching later, Tandy was finding the task harder than she assumed it would be. Every place so far was so expensive! Of course, she knew New York living would be, but even the cheaper places she had looked at were still more than she was willing to spend- especially considering what she would be getting. On top of that, Tandy was disappointed that the couple of places she had found that were in her price range required a guardian of some sort to rent to a minor. Deciding there was no way she was going to her mom for help and not having any way of contacting her missing father (and not even considering her step-father as an option), Tandy was stuck finding an acceptable place that would rent to her. Meaning Tandy was running out of options.
Tandy ended up at a stand, which had a bunch of advertisements for apartments lining the sides. Letting her eyes skim over them, she skipped the ones for places she had already visited, and selected the ones that seemed worth checking out. Flipping through the ones she had gathered, Tandy near jumped when a voice behind her asked, "Looking for a place to stay?"
Tandy looked over her shoulder, and saw a man probably in his early twenties, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses. Smiling at the stranger, Tandy nodded, stating, "Yeah, I am."
The man smiled, but it was much different than when Tandy smiled- she decided it was just her imagination and ignored it as he stated, "I know of a good place, and cheap too. Only $300 a month and utilities are included. Furnishings too."
Tandy raised an eyebrow. $300 a month? That was dirt cheap compared to everything else Tandy had seen, and cheaper than anything Tandy hoped to find. There must have been a catch, but naive Tandy let other concerns fill her mind before the obvious one. "Really? So... how old do you need to be to rent?"
"I'm guessing you're not yet eighteen, are you?" Tandy paused, not sure she should say that, but the pause was all the man need- he was used to dealing with her type. "That's no problem, don't worry. Come on, follow me, miss..."
"Tandy. My name is Tandy." She smiled happily as she followed the man, chatting away and not aware of any potential trouble. They only had to walk about fifteen minutes before they reached the building, which from the outside did not look half bad! "So this is the place?" Tandy asked, not sure she quite believed it.
"Mm-hm, just step right in Miss Tandy." The man waited at the bottom of the stairs, seeming to keep an eye out for something as Tandy made her way up the stairs.
Stepping over the threshold, Tandy looked back at him and began to ask, "Is everything alri-" Her sentence was cut off, however, as something hit her hard on the head, and the world spun for a few seconds before Tandy found herself falling into darkness.
