It had been three days and she hadn't seen or talked to Declan at all in that time. Not that Su could blame him after what she'd said. She had known something was up even after having asked her question, but for some reason she kept going and going and... Then things just seemed to go downhill from there and in the end all it did was make her feel absolutely horrible and guilty. And she didn't really have anyone to talk to, because it was Declan she normally talked to anyway and she'd gone and screwed that up, making him miserable as well. Some friend she was.
Stupid thing was she'd known perfectly well that Lucy was related to the Carrows, but for some reason it hadn't really clicked in her mind. So she kept pushing the issue of why he avoided Lucy until the point that she'd upset him and they'd since stopped talking. So that was why she was, so early in the morning, walking around the grounds of Hogwarts. Finally having got the courage to go and apologise to him in person. Although at the moment she was wracking her brain trying to remember where he'd be at this hour.
Su knew he had likely gone for a morning run, but he could've gone running anywhere on the grounds; which was the whole reason she'd been wandering the grounds for a little while now as she tried to think of where he'd be. It wasn't long before Su remembered that Declan liked to visit the thestrals now and then. Even though she herself wasn't a fan of them, they were still a little too creepy looking for her liking, she at least was aware of where they were kept. She ran as quickly and carefully as possible, not wanting to slip and fall over on the cold damp grass, until she came upon the clearing on the edge of the forest.
As she crept closer, not wanting to startle the thestrals, she could see Declan stroking the head of one of them. It was strange to think that if not for the past year all she'd see was Declan stroking nothing but thin air. But since the battle she had to start getting used to the fact she could now see the strange creatures that pulled the school carriages. Enough of that train of thinking, she thought to herself as she took a calming breath.
"Declan," she quietly called out and hoping that if he turned around it wasn't to send her away.
