RP: Post-Full Moon
Who: Remus Lupin, Draco Malfoy, James Potter
When: 22 January 2022 - early afternoon
Where: back at basecamp
What: Rest and recovery after a rough night
The wolf didn't like to be kept waiting.
Necrohelm had extended the usual cycle a couple of weeks and he'd started to feel a little...itchy under the skin. Well, moreso than usual
But, this had been three months.
Three months without the change. Three months of the beast inside him staying caged, getting angrier and angrier at not being allowed out, not being allowed to hunt and kill. It hadn't gotten bad until after the North Pole. Then with the visions of the future and random blackouts, he could excuse staying on his own more, where he could deal with the growing want in the back of his mind. But, by the time they'd arrived here and with being able to sense the approach of a full moon, it had become difficult to keep the irritation and tendency to snap at someone over the slightest thing at bay.
After the way the wolf had risen to greet the need for battle and embrace the destruction of the work camp, Remus had known this Full would not be an easy one, even with the potion from Necrohelm.
The innate ability to sense the approaching Full gave him enough warning to be able to make plans. He'd spoken to John about likely locations and scouted them with Draco and James, who would have to be able to apparate there and side-along Remus out, after. The one they picked was a film studio with a couple remaining soundstages still standing in decent enough condition they should be shielded from discovery by man or machine. Remus had then talked over the plans with Steve so that he would be aware of them in case something happened, either to them or to force the others out of basecamp.
The actual transformation had been as bad as he'd expected. With no outlet for it's violence other than the human form it wore the rest of the lunar cycle, it felt as every rip of muscle and crack of bone was intensified, the fur stabbing through his skin like millions of tiny needles. Both times left him drained and pained. But, the transformation back to human was the worst and he only prayed that the spells they'd cast beforehand to keep others from hearing him had held up to the hoarse screams that echoed in his ears long after his body was no longer able to hold his own weight.
He had vague recollections of spending a lot of time running off the excess energy during the night, Draco and James watching from a short distance away. Physical exertion always did more to appease his inner beast than any calming draught or spell could have. Even with the potion from Necrohelm, the smell of blood and flesh was a temptation and he could feel the restlessness in the back of his mind as the monster tried to claw it's way out of his mind as it had his body. But, the potion had held and his friends had, it seemed, helped get him back to rest.
Remus hadn't had any choice but to sleep after that. At least for a few hours. He had trained himself to be able to wake after only four or five hours while living on the streets. It meant his body was weaker and his reactions slower. But, it still left him less vulnerable that passing out for half a day or more might have when he had no shelter to speak of at any particular time. Here, where the people he travelled with were as untrusted as his kind at home, if only for their being unknown quantities to the fighters who lived in this world, he could not let himself be lax.
Clearly someone had taken pains to make him comfortable, despite the rather familiar squallor in which the Resistance lived. There was a warming charm on the blanket over him when he came to and he could feel the effects of cushioning charms beneath him. Before he had opened his eyes, he caught scent of a familiar presence and smiled in soft reassurance. "I'm sure it's not as bad as it looks," he said, quiet amusement doing nothing to hide the roughness of his voice that would linger a day or so due to both the transformation and the screams it tore from him. Opening his eyes, he turned his head. "I take it we are back as unscathed as possible?"
