Sirius had been in a bad mood ever since breakfast that morning. He hadn't said why but it was obvious that something in the letter he'd received during the morning post bothered him. In truth, it had been from his mother who began said letter in that sickeningly sweet tone of hers before it morphed into the voice of the monster he knew her to be. He also knew what it meant, it meant he was in trouble, big trouble, and he really wasn't looking forward to the holidays now.
Sirius' family hated him. They hated him because unlike them he wasn't a prejudiced bigot and he didn't want to be. But to have an actual family? Well, it'd be nice. Apparently though, that wasn't in the cards for him and this letter proved it. Having chucked it in the common room fire, Sirius had stormed up to the dorms resolutely alone and scribbled down an entry hastily, trying to get the thoughts consuming him out of his head before heaving a great sigh and running a hand through his hair. Oh God, he didn't want to go home. Chucking his journal on Remus' bed without really thinking, since he spent so much time in Remus' bed lately, the boy left the dorms with a sigh. He needed to walk this off.
