That didn’t make Adam feel any better, but he still nodded. He wanted to hear that Kyle wouldn’t get tired of him, but it made sense and it was practical.
"I don't want you to worry about any of this," Kyle explained, sitting down next to Adam and taking hold of his hand. "I don't want you to feel like you have to hang around, just because you owe me money, or that if things go sour then I'm going to be demanding payment out of pique. I don't want that kind of pressure for us - but I don't want you to miss out on opportunities that I can help you with either. I want everything for you, Adam Samuels. Everything."
Adam laced his fingers with Kyle’s, turning to look at him. “I don’t need everything,” he said because he wasn’t sure what else to say. “I just want to be with you Ky. I know that’s the wrong thing to say, but it’s all I’m certain of at the moment.”
“Well, I want to be with you as well,” Kyle said, a little breathlessly. He may be trying to use his head, but he wasn’t entirely immune to Adam saying those kind of things. The kind of things that appealed directly to his heart.
Adam smiled, leaning in to kiss Kyle before jumping back. “Holy shit!” He pulled at Kyle, moving off the bed and glaring at the bird Kyle’s dresser. “Fucking...That was not there a moment ago!”
Kyle had been leaning in to kiss Adam, his eyes already closing in anticipation, when his boyfriend screamed and Kyle jumped so high he fell off the bed and onto the floor. “Fucking what the hell?” he exclaimed, staring at Adam until he realised what Adam was staring at and them he was scrambling back until his back hit the side of the bed. “I closed the door. I locked the door!”
“I know! And it did that before…” Adam was shaking a little, and too freaked out to be embarrassed by it. “I don’t know what this means but I’m starting to think it’s like death or something following me.” Which was completely irrational, but his back was pressed against a wall and that fucking bird was staring at him and yes, he was scared.
No way Kyle would say it, but he almost agreed with Adam. Nothing felt impossible any more. Not between the hotel and freaking Game of Thrones land. But he wasn’t going to say that Adam was going to die and so he just reached up and took hold of the other man’s arm, pulling him down so that he could properly cling. Clinging was good right now.
Adam went where Kyle pulled, wrapping his arms around Kyle, holding him close. It was the best he could do, all he could think to do. It didn’t solve the problem, the bird still sitting there, tilting it’s head at an angle that couldn’t be natural to stare at him. He hid his face in Kyle’s shoulder.
“What do we do?” Kyle asked, still staring at the bird. He couldn’t take his eyes off the thing, as though to do so would mean it would move closer. That beak looked so big. His imagination was far too vivid.
“I have no idea.” Adam peeked up enough to rest his chin on Kyle’s shoulder. “Kill it?”
“No!” Kyle said, instinctively, a pacifist at heart. Then he added. “How do you even kill a bird?”
“You shoot it.” Adam didn’t exactly have a gun. “Burn it?” That wasn’t a good suggestion either, but he didn’t know what else to to suggest.
“Not exactly the most practical suggestions there, A…” Kyle breathed.
“I’m not feeling very practical. I’ve got a freaky bird stalking me.” Adam clutched Kyle tighter trying to stop himself from shaking.
“I’d really like to argue with you on that, but… you so have,” Kyle agreed.
Adam nodded slowly, chin still on Kyle’s shoulder. “Is it okay if we just sit here for a little bit?”
“Sure,” Kyle agreed. “I kinda… don’t want to go anywhere when there’s that thing watching us anyway,” he confessed. “So… just fine, right here.”
“Good,” Adam agreed. “Right here.” He wasn’t sure he trusted his feet to get under him like they should anyway.
