Attack!
Who: Edison and Harlow Where: near their tents When: evening
With Harlow down to one squire, Edison was left doing everything, which with Harlow was actually everything. He was lugging her gear, following after her as they headed back towards their tent. She was exhausting, but staying on her good side seemed imperative.
Harlow was happy to let Edison truck around her items. She kind of loved that there was someone dedicated to doing whatever she told them. She pushed open the tent and stepped inside, not holding the flap for Edison. He was a big boy, he’d open it his damn self. “Good day today,” She said, though, with a smile on her lips because she was ultimately happy.
He just barely caught the flap as it fell in his face, having to rebalance her gear to keep from dropping everything, but he managed. Once they were inside, he set the gear aside, looking at her for a moment. She was impressive, but in her own weird way. “Yeah? You did well. One of the best.”
Harlow collapsed into her section and leaned backward, watching Edison. “I am the best,” She corrected, watching him as she spoke. “You are better at carrying things than I thought you would be.”
“Well, there are at least three other close contenders. You’ll have to prove it tomorrow.” He raised an eyebrow, catching that she was looking at him. “I’m glad I can live up to expectations.”
She studied him carefully, quietly, and tilted her head one way while she did it. “...Are you a ‘squire’ at home?” She asked, thinking the answer was probably know, that he had some sort of other job, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t a good squire. “You make a good one.”
She was starting to stare him down which made Edison ever so slightly uncomfortable though he tried not to show it. “Do I carry things around and cater to someone else? No. I’m a librarian.”
“A librarian….Flimsy job,” Harlow said, rolling onto her side and leaning her head on her hand. “You catalogue books? Do you sneeze often because of the dust?”
“Flimsy? How so?” Edison watched her, not sure what to do with himself so he kept where he was. “None of that. I get things for people, answer questions, put books away from time to time, mostly just get my research done.”
“That,” Harlow said, waving her hands in the air to indicate all of the things he just said in one big conglomerate. “You research all day? You do nothing hard labor and you still carry things well. Do you carry books all day? Why do you not have glasses?”
“I carry a lot of books,” Edison said. “And I don’t need glasses, so I don’t have them.” He smiled though running his fingers through his hair. “I do a lot of research though yes, constantly learning new things.”
"It sounds boring," Harlow said, looking back at the top of their tent. Her eyes narrowed when the burlap seemed to cave a bit and she realized that something had smashed into it. Still confused, she watched it happen again and heard a squawking outside. "...What does your mind tell you about this?" She asked, pointing up as two small figures hit the top of their tent.
Edison looked up at the top of the tent, ducking away from the impact that was closer to his head than hers. "Birds?" he asked, but it wasn't really an answer to her question. "That something's wrong." It happened again though this time the tent material started to rip and he jumped back again. "We should get out of here. Find out why they are attacking the tent."
Harlow was actually grinning a little. Nature was mad and she, personally, loved seeing angry nature. It tended to put people in their place, show them that they weren’t as strong as they thought. All except her, really. “Or we can stay and let what happens, happen.”
Edison looked at her confused. “I’m not sure I want to reenact a scene from a Hitchcock movie,” he said, shifting closer to her as the birds attacked the tent again.
“Then you can stay here,” Harlow said, grabbing her sword and leaving the tent without another look back at Edison. If he wanted to chicken out, he could do so all by himself and stay in this tent until she decided to come back, covered in bird blood and animal guts.
