A group of people from far and wide wind up in an old hotel. They have no obvious reason why they, among others, have been chosen. All they know is that they are trapped there, their only escape into scenarios spanning time and space, from the mundane to fantastic. With each new scenario, the scenery and the players change, and with each new location or time, comes a new quest, something else to be overcome, survived, or figured out.
Along the way Talismans find their way into the hands of the adventurers, each one seemingly specifically chosen for the holder, each one coming with both abilities and pitfalls of carrying it. Some help with the objectives, some hinder, but all carry a unique power.
As each scenario ends, each objective if obtained, the travelers wonder if they’ll end up home, back to the original timelines and lives, or if, like before, they’ll wind up in the hotel again, surrounded by old dusty furniture and a staff that seems neither helpful or hurtful.
Where will they go next? Who will they meet, and who will come back with them? Because sometimes, they find that people have hitched a ride back to the hotel, just as stuck as the original group that was chosen, hoping to find their way home again.
Pulling the strings are dark forces no one quite understands. All they can do is keep playing the game.
The Regent Hotel
The Regent Hotel is considered home base. Each guest arrives with one suitcase of belongings from home. It's where everyone starts, and will always end up again between different adventures. It's an old place, looking like it was in its heyday in the 1950s, and nothing's been touched since, as if all the guests just disappeared one day. The decor and staff's styles are all reminiscent of that era.
It's dusty, a bit creepy, and nearly empty. The main lobby is huge, with high ceilings a lot of furniture and flowers, and it's own library set around the perimeter. While there is a kitchen, it's impossible to find, and no kitchen staff is ever seen - room service simply happens, after a card is filled out for the room occupant's desires and left in a small mailbox outside of each room.
The Throne Room Bar is a ball room with a bar in it, a regal place full of crystal chandeliers, dusty orchestra instruments set in a small pit before a stage. It's low lit, and gorgeous. It gives off an air of being best suited for grand parties and fancy clothes, but nothing of the sort seems to be happening there now.
The Courtyard is a small internal garden that's been overgrown with roses. It's turned it into a thorny affair, but it's beautiful, and the only place to get outside while in the Regent.
The Front Desk is manned by the hostess and concierge, though the two are never seen there together. It’s a source of information, sometimes relevant, sometimes not.
Each guest has their own room and key to it and while all the rooms are different with slightly different furniture, each one looks like a hotel room out of the 50s. Some rooms have more ornate furniture, with a poster bed and a vanity, while others would have sleeker lines and purely functional furniture. The color schemes in rooms vary as well, as if someone was getting creative with the decor or couldn’t decide on a single theme.
Looking out the windows of the Hotel give a different view. It's ever changing outside, basically, so even looking out the same window on different days will provide a different landscape to look at.
The Staff
Sally, the Hostess Sally is a thin, severe looking woman in her 30s with mousey brown hair pulled up in to a severely tight uncomfortable looking updo, black framed glasses and who always wears a crisp flower print dress. She can be found behind the front desk of the Regent, and is there to answer questions in vague or unhelpful ways, as well as direct people where they would like to go in the Regent. If you have a question, Sally might have the answer for you. She is a strict hotel policy follower, and often will refuse to answer questions based on ‘management’.
William, the Concierge A snooty, tall man in his 50s, William has salt and pepper hair that is always combed back, never out of place. He wears a tux at all times, and always gives everyone the impression he’s staring down his pointed nose at them. He always seems rushed, like he has much more important things to do with his time, but will never actually tell anyone he’s too busy. He provides hotel guests with items they request, though they are never exactly what was asked for. Any items provided by William look like they belong in the hotel or were found within it.
Joe the Bartender Joe the bartender is found manning the bar in The Throne Room. He's an older gentleman though how old is difficult to pinpoint. He's always happy to pour a drink, lend and ear, and give out advice that usually has little to do with the issue at hand. He's great for unsolicited opinions and insight, or giving information and observations of what others in the hotel are up to. He's always friendly.
Mary the Maid Mary is a young blonde girl in her twenties, who cleans the hotel. Messes of any description are her problem, though she never comments on them. What she does do is spread gossip like wildfire, happy to talk anyone’s ear off about everyone else and their business. Whether she’s actually truthful or not is up for speculation. She’s cute, nosey, talkative and friendly. She’s a flirt with any men.
Benny the Bellhop Benny is the youngest staff member, clocking in at around nineteen years old. His uniform is slightly ill fitting, broader in the shoulders than he is. He's thin, looks a bit gaunt, and like he's suffering from a stomach bug. His skin is pale, and there are circles under his eyes. He's the only staff member that really appears anywhere in the hotel, though finding him on purpose is quite the task. He always seems rushed, and ready to jump to anyone's request. It is also clear he fears 'management' and is unhelpful with any questions, usually referring to any other staff member besides himself.
Hotel Cat Hotel Cat is mischievous and all black, wearing a collar who's tag reads 'hotel cat'. A perpetual kitten, Hotel Cat is curious and likes to steal small objects of power from the hotel’s residents, thus forcing the residents to go on a wild goose hunt for their lost objects. Hotel Cat usually sits on the Front Desk of the The Regent, with Sally.
