Characters: Susan Bones and Ginny Weasley
Date: 4 September, 1997; Breakfast
Location: Gryffindor table, Great Hall
Warnings: None
Summary: Susan realizes something foreboding.
The Great Hall was full of little whispers that seemed to charge the air itself with energy. Even Professor McGonagall had shared a private conversation with Professor Sprout, the two witches with their heads bowed and tilted so that it was impossible, even from the near end of the Hufflepuff table, to tell what made them both smile broadly as they returned to their respective seats.
Not all of the staff table was cheerful - Professor Snape looked as though his breakfast was comprised solely of tapeworms - and neither were all of the students, but it seemed as though the general consensus was the same, even if it hadn't been said in so many words. Susan grinned to herself, rereading the Daily Prophet article that had been published with much less fanfare than it had been in last night's evening edition. Her chewing of her toast slowed to a halt, however, as something clicked together in Susan's brain.
With a glance at her watch and a promise to see everyone at lunch, Susan picked up her bookbag, the newspaper, and another piece of toast to keep her stomach from growling all the way through Runes and this new foray into Muggle Studies. She watched the Gryffindor table as she went, and when she spotted Ginny, she gave a somewhat conspicuous wave. "Can I talk to you for just a sec?" asked Susan as she got nearer. "I just thought of something about this article in the Prophet."
