WHAT: Willow needs books to further her learning

Willow had stepped into Styx and Stones, looking around in a sort of curious wonder. The Doctor and Clara were having some one on one time and so the redhead had decided to go wander the town. In the beginning, she hadn't been too fond of the other girl spending time alone with thier master. But now with the jealousy gone Willow actually encouraged it. There was no fighting for affections and the other slave got to go and do something for themselves. On this day, she had come upon a magic shop.

There were other shops around sure. But usually the owners took one look at Willow, saw how much she didn't know and decided she wasn't worth the effort, something that had the young witch scurrying out without buying a thing. But today she was determined. Today she would at least pick up some books to read up on.

Wandering through the aisles, Willow looked over the different titles. It was a little overwhelming. She wasn't even sure what books to get or where she would start. The Doctor encouraged learning, but how was she supposed to learn when she wasn't even sure what would help her. Sighing softly, she picked up one of the books and leafed lightly through the pages.

Willow had been so immersed in the book she had picked up, she didn't hear the man approach. Jumping at the sudden voice, she only just managed to not drop the text on the floor. That probably wouldn't have been a good impression at all, considering the book looked like it was a bit on the older side.

"Oh hello!" She replied with a smile, blushing slightly in embarrassment from her spazziness. Now unsure if it was a book she should be touching, she quickly put it back before answering. "I can, sort of. My master has been teaching me. I can read enough to understand what they're saying but I can't read it fluently. Which would be bad if I was trying to cast a spell in Latin. I wouldn't want to do that and put one ingredient when it was actually calling for another."

Realizing her nervous rambling had started, the redhead quickly closed her mouth for a moment before holding out her hand.

"I'm Willow by the way." She offered as way of introduction. "Could you possibly suggest some books for a witch who is just starting to learn?"

Ripper kept quiet as she rambled. He hadn't run into many slaves that were allowed to wander out to his shoppe, let alone were witches. But then his store had not been open for very long, only long enough to peek the interest of those on the island. "Pleasure," he said with a slight skeptical look on his face. There was no hesitation to shake her hand, but he held on a moment longer as he tried to judge her talent potential.

"Is your Master teaching you any magic?" He stepped back gesturing her to follow him to a more open portion of the store. Candles flickered alive as they stepped into a circle area with markings on the floor. "How is it that you are only just now learning your birthright?"

If she followed him into the circle, he would lift her arms out as if he was taking her measurements and say in incantation in a mumbled language. The floor glowing bright and then fading.

"Kind of..He's a Fae so its more like I read and experiment and he encourages and supports." She replied as she started to follow the man, noting that he didn't give her a name. She stepped into the circle, looking around with wide eyed wonder much like a child. She had never actually seen much like this much less done it herself.

At his question Willow frown, looking slightly uncomfortable. She felt so awkward, knowing that she was only just learning things that a child could probably perform by now.

"I didn't know I was a witch until recently." she explained. "My parents...at least the people who had raised me were human and so I always thought I was human too. Then The Doctor bought me and he was able to see that I possessed magic."

"Ah, Fae... Interesting folk." That would be all he would comment on the subject of that kind. He did not hate them like he did naturally of vampires, but they were mischievous creatures that tended to mess with his binding and requests of demons. Or they had in the past. There were far too many bad experiences in his past that any normal person would have given up their magic by now to take the comfort in hiding as a Watcher. Ripper was not a normal person.

"I'm surprised no one noticed before hand." He shrugged. The magic he had cast felt light compared to the spells he was use to sending out into the universe. His magic tended to smother the lungs, cause pain in his nerves and tainted the environment around him.

"You have potential if you had someone to actually teach you. But flipping through pages of books you do not understand will not help you much beyond putting the basic knowledge there or creating problems for yourself, love. Experimenting without direction make the world an interesting place, but I doubt your Doctor would appreciate it if you accidentally summon a lesser demon into the house."

"A demon?!" The witch squeaked out, eyes wide in shock. She hated to think of the trouble she could cause by just practicing things on her own, but it was all she had. She didn't grow up learning these things like everyone else did. "That's impossible! I couldn't summon a demon, I can barely make a pencil float!"

But the thought was stuck in her head now and that was something that worried her. She didn't want to do anything bad, she just wanted to learn. All she ever wanted to do was learn new things.

"But what do I do then?" She asked, biting her lip. "I don't know any other witches and those who I've come across see me as nothing more than a human since I'm a pathetic excuse for a witch. Books are all I have"

A grin spread across Ripper's features. The girl was so sweet and innocent. The truth ripped those kinds of people apart and the darkness seduced them more heavily than others. "Summoning doesn't need as much power as keeping the demon in its place. They want to be here, but the bloody well do not like to be controlled." Ripper of anyone knew the consequences of not having control and releasing something onto friends.

The roll of his eyes might have been more of a pointed gesture had there been more than the new witch on the store. Ripper tried to be soulless, thought himself above the law and rules and authorities, but he was not heartless. The steel cage he had put up to protect him from the survivors regret he felt had holes poked into it like an animal box to let it breathe. Had he completely cut himself off he would have been no better than the vampires he despised or demons he tried to control.

"Books are not the worst thing to be interested in, I obviously read enough, you merely need direction." Ripper stepped out of the circular area to grab a small book. "Here we are." He paused studying her once more. "If your master is so inclined, I may help guide you a little more thoroughly... If you would like." Turning his back to her, he pulled out a cigarette. The end lit up without the need of matches or a lighter. "I must warn you that I am not some wanker of a teacher. I will not go easy on you because you are new."

"Well that's just perfect. I'm sure The D- my master would just love having an accidentally summoned demon running amok in the house!" She said with a groan. She had no idea that that was something she could even do. And now she was worried that the next time she practiced floating a pencil a monster was going to poof out of nowhere. It scared her too because it could hurt the doctor or even Clara. That was the last thing she wanted.

"You'd...youd rbe willing to teach me?" She asked, not wanting to get her hopes up. This man may say he'd do it, but would probably give up once he realized that she wasn't a very good witch. After all she couldn't do things that child witches could do. "I wouldn't want you to go easy on me. I want to learn. I want to know these things and be a witch like I was born to be."

"Demons at that can be summoned at that level are fairly easy to control." Ripper thought nothing of such things. Demons were weak willed creatures compared to him, or so Ripper thought. He had dealt with so many, by himself or with a group that he would never feel fear in the summoning of such creatures. The only regret he had over it was in the last time he summoned a strong demon and it tore through his friends in possession like it was nothing. But Ripper never spoke of that and only his nightmares showed that guilt.

"I don't go easy on anyone." Ripper felt it necessary to reiterate the point. "I was a prodigy as a child, but that did not mean that I relaxed on my studies. As long as you are hungry for the knowledge and willing to work for it, I think we can come to an arrangement."

Taking a drag of his cigarette, he flipped the pages of the small book he had grabbed. "Are you more of a witch or a mage?" He asked, before pausing in his scanning of the book. "Also, if you go complaining to your master about my lessons and he feels the need to be overly protective, our lessons will end immediately." And then he continued flipping through the book.
