Though the injuries sustained from his almost fatal duel against another assassin vanished with the rise of the moon a week ago, Kenshin lamented the loss of his humanity silently. He assured himself that he would be better able to protect Sayuri as a vampire and that she would be better able to defend herself against her husband's hired killers with her magic as well, but his still heart ached to know that he'd been teased for such a period of time only to lose his humanity all over again. It was a hard pill to swallow, though he would make no outward showing of it, smiling at Sayuri and carrying on as he always had, taking care of the household chores and the cooking. Kenshin had never liked to show people when he was suffering.
Instead, his thoughts drifted to the problem of Sayuri's husband. He was unrelenting, and no number of assassins defeated seemed to deter him. Though Kenshin vowed to defeat them, each and every one again and again if need be, he disliked the idea that his young mistress would have to live with such fear for the rest of her days. Something would have to be done. Her former husband would have to be confronted. For such a thing, however, Kenshin would need permission and information.
He was preparing a meal for her - a fine feast consisting of fish, rice and miso that he hoped would bring her comforting memories of home. Once she'd eaten, he intended to approach the subject. He doubted to speak of such a man would be a pleasant matter for Sayuri, and he hated that he would make her uncomfortable in doing so. Her safety, however, was most important to him, and it seemed as though the near weekly attacks were not going to relent. He knew not what he would do when coming face to face with her husband, but something needed to be done. Sayuri would not live her life like this forever. He refused to allow it.
