RP: An Unsupervised Night at Carnival
Who: Lily + Etta
What: Lily tries a traditional approach
When: 6/23/2028
Where: Carnival
Warnings: Sexual Topics (Hinted at)
Completion Status: Ongoing Complete

"At least it's not just a bar." Lily told herself as she walked passed the bouncer into Carnival. The club was as packed as it had been the night of Molly's party and if she was honest the thought of Gavin and Rose still needled at her. She tried not to look at the VIP lounge where they had all set instead scanning the bar area for any wizard that looked to be here alone. There were a few, but they all looked much older than her, adults taking in the Thursday Happy Hour Specials. Ordering herself a tonic water and lime, Lily thanked the bartender and began hovering around the dance floor.

"Ugh, I know that feeling," Etta said as she returned the hug. "Getting a massive rent discount for agreeing to be on call most nights is not great for my social life," she complained. There was variation in what time she was meant to be home by, but it could get restrictive. On the other hand she got to live on Diagon Alley within one of the major magical centres of London.

"Thanks," she said, brushing the neckline apart again slightly. "I've had it on all day but I sexed it up a bit for the club."

Etta shrugged and pulled an undecided sort of face. "Mostly bored and restless, maybe a bit horny," she said in a matter of fact way. "I can always solve the last one on my own though." She maybe didn't know Lily well enough to say that, but they were adults and had played quidditch together, and she'd sure caught glimpses of her in far less clothing and weirder positions because of it. Plus obscuring the fact she enjoyed sex was mostly for work and family settings, not friends and clubs.

"Yeah, I get that." Lily replied bluntly, squirming in place. She hadn't admitted it to anyone, but taking care of herself didn't hold the same pleasure since she'd decided not to obey Gavin anymore. Something about having someone tell her what to do and not to do made her ache to the point where she was a horny mess.

"That last one's a bit harder for me to solve." The words seemed to tumble out. Sofía was her friend and Lily couldn't even admit to her that she craved that type of arrangement. Not with Gavin, anymore. Godric, no. But with someone. The more she dwelled on the topic, the more she felt that coming out to the club was a bad idea. It's not like anyone would respond well to, I want you to take me out of her and tell me what to do all night.

It wasn't just the words themselves but also the boldness of them that made Etta's eyebrows jump up her forehead. For some reason, despite her bold quidditch playing, she didn't associate her with that way of talking. "Not figured out what you like on your own yet?" she asked, curious. She wasn't sure if Lily wanted advice, just to say the words out loud, or something in between.

A guy on the dancefloor made eye contact with her just then, and even though he was attractive there wasn't an immediate connection for her. In fact she got a bad feeling from him and she cut her eyes away and turned towards Lily and looked at her more closely. "You want to talk about this or distractions?" she asked. Her people and body language skills were deeply imperfect outside of funeral industry related topics, but that was a little broader than people might imagine.

Lily followed Etta's eyes across the dance floor. The guy was cute, but Eliza didn't seem to think so. The redhead seemed to relax when Etta offered to focus on the issue. "I appreciate it, really but I think distractions are in order."

The thoughts were still so new that Lily didn't even know what she was really saying. "It's just frustrating." She sighed. She'd had no problem before he'd told her not to.

She walked away from the dance floor and back towards the bar. It seemed an easier area to control. "Drinks?" She didn't know if Etta had a particular go to, and whiskey would just make Lily more depressed than she already was.

"Well, the offer is there if you change your mind," she said with an unbothered shrug. She sipped idly at her bottle. She assumed they would be moving onto the dancefloor.

She wrinkled her nose in sympathy. "Yeah, I tend to find a lack of orgasms pretty frustrating," she agreed. At least that's what she thought Lily was talking about.

Apparently she was wrong about the dancefloor, but trailed after Lily happily enough. "I'm good with butterbeer," she said, raising her half-finished bottle. "I've got work tomorrow and my dad would kill me, even if there isn't anything booked for tomorrow." Hungover was not a good look for employees in such a sombre business, as she had been told a couple of times before learning her lesson.

"Thanks." Lily smiled thankful that Etta didn't push the subject. If she was honest with herself, the redhead didn't quite know if there was anything to talk about. Things just felt different. And the way that Gavin just quit cold turkey had her twisted.

"God it is." Lily whined out. "It's more frustrating when work is so busy. Auror Training. Last leg before the field." Lily was almost there. She should be excited but her nerves were frayed and the outing was supposed to repair that.

She flagged down the bartender and ordered their drinks, butterbeer for her and a irish whiskey on the rock for her. "I guess I should be thankful I didn't go into work with the family." She thought about what Ginny would do if she showed up to the Prophet hungover from the night before. Harry would probably be drinking right next to her she thought. Eh, maybe.

She took her first sip of whiskey. The bite at the back of her throat was momentary but otherwise smooth.

Etta scrunched her face up, knowing that sort of job was absolutely not for her. "Yeah I can see that relaxation and being at the top of your game is kind of key there," she said. "I juggle a couple of jobs, but it's not that kind of high-pressure thing," she explained. Saying she enjoyed the funeral work didn't tend to go down well with most people, but there was definite satisfaction and a sense of doing something important. But by the time she was involved the point of life or death decisions was already past and she just had to work on honouring who the person had been.

"It has its upsides and downsides," she agreed with a laugh. "The work is important and satisfying, but it's good to have days where I'm not working with almost an entire staff that's known me from the time I could barely walk or earlier!" Not all of the non-family staff had worked for the firm for that long, but many of them had.

"Thanks," she said when her new drink arrived. She'd finished off her previous one in a few gulps while they were near the bar and set her bottle down. She was hoping the result wouldn't be too many burps. "Wanna dance or watch people more?" she asked. The two weren't mutually exclusive, and they were both looking good enough they might attract attention in either scenario, but Etta wasn't feeling drawn exclusively to either option.

The redhead twirled the ice in her glass glancing between the bar and the dance floor. She'd told herself and Sofía that she'd be more bold. Get out there and stop letting her mind wander back to Gavin.

She huffed, downing the rest of her drink and turning back to Etta. "Dance." Lily felt a similar determined rush, reminding her of her decision to apply to the Auror program.

Etta couldn't help but grin at the sudden determination from Lily, but sighed and looked at her drink. It was distinctly not safe to take it on the dancefloor. She took several large swallows from her bottle and put it back on the bar. She waved a hand at the passing bartender to let them know she was done.

"Dance it is," she affirmed and stepped towards the dance floor with determination. Her hips were already starting to automatically sway with her movement. She was feeling good and dancing always felt good for her soul. Maybe after a while Lily would open up so more. Or maybe she wouldn't. Etta wasn't fussy. Just aiming for a good time.
