rp: Please be okay
Who: Penny & Amara
What: Worried Big Sister
When: After Wes' Messages
Where: Amara's flat on DA.
Warnings: TBD
Status: in-progress

The messages with Wes had gotten under Penny’s skin, distracting her from sending a warning to her sister that she was coming by. She was still dressed from her run, in a pair of shorts and matching sports bra, dark locks pulled back into a messy ponytail. The way she looked didn’t matter as much as Amara did, even if those comments from Wes were still nibbling at the back of her brain.

She arrived via floo, knowing her mind was just a little too distracted in order to apparate properly.

“Amara!” She called out, tone worried the second she arrived. Wes wouldn’t have reached out like that unless it had been important, and the fact he kept telling her that it was something Amara needed to tell her wasn’t sitting right with her. Every scenario from Amara having physically hurt to her sister being kidnapped, kept running through her head as she took in her surroundings. Shite, Amara better be okay.

Amara was certain she could count on one hand the number of times she'd seen her sister this anxious, and she groaned softly. Before she could ask who'd told her, Penny explained about Wes, and everything made a lot more sense. She hadn't realized Penny and Wes were still close, but she supposed she should have. Neither of them were the sort of person one easily got over, she imagined.

"I guess they released him then," she said, sighing softly. She brought her mug to her lips, cringing faintly as she realized how cold her coffee had become. She cast a silent charm to heat it back up and swirl the liquid around before taking a sip of it. "I'm fine, I promise. Thanks to Wes. But I'm sure I would be fine even if he hadn't come along." That didn't mean she wanted to say out loud what had happened--or almost happened--to her.

Dark orbs nearly popped out of her head at those words. Released him. What in the world? Her mind raced with questions, which should she ask first? She was fine though, thanks to Wes. Why did that make her heart ache? Wes was just a good dick, nothing more. They had a fun friendship, but surely they were always just under each other's skin. Hailey was hers, she needed to stop these ridiculous thoughts.

"That just makes things seem worse, please tell me what happened?" she pleaded softly, seeing as her sister seemed a bit fragile. Instead of towering over Amara, Penny found herself slipping into a seat. She needed to know about this whole, they released Wes thing, but she'd ask about that later. Maybe even just message him herself.

Sighing heavily, Amara looked out between the bars on the balcony railing. The streets of Diagon Alley were still mostly quiet, the shops not yet opening for Saturday morning business, though a few people milled about anyway. Perhaps they were out for a run like Penny had been just a little bit ago.

"I was at La Frénésie last night, and I found this cute guy to flirt with. It was going great until he took it too far. I walked away. He followed. Honestly, Pen, I'm totally fine! He was trying to push things when Wes showed up and... Well, to be honest, he beat the living shit out of him." That had been almost more terrifying than Silas wanting to fuck her. She was used to men wanting to fuck her and usually managed those situations just fine. "The aurors showed up and arrested him. They took me in for an examination and interview, and... It was just a long night. I'm good, though, I promise."

Miracles did happen, and Penny kept her mouth shut to let her sister finish her thoughts. There had been a few times she'd wanted to but in that she wanted to know who this man was, why Wes had been there, and what had been found in the examination. She was being over protective, she knew, so she tried to keep those thoughts to herself. Including the thought that it was so incredibly sexy that he had beat the living shit out of someone, for her sister. She was certain it had nothing to do with her, he may not have even realized it was her sister until after. Still, she found herself excited just thinking of Wes being pushed to that level of anger. Maybe she wasn't over him.

"Oh, Amara," she said in a soft voice. She scooted closer to her sister, reaching a hand out to gently touch hers. "You're sure you're okay?" she asked with concern, eyes flitting over Amara's features. She was trying to determine if her sister was lying to her or not.

Giving her sister a warm smile, she nodded. "I am, promise! Come on, as if a too-handsy guy could get me down! I just had trouble sleeping after all the excitement, and it would have been a shame to waste such a beautiful morning." It was strange how summing up the events of the previous night had seemed to help her reclaim some of that optimism. It was a beautiful day, and she wouldn't give Silas the power to ruin it!

"How are you doing?" she asked, turning her hand under Penny's and giving it a small squeeze.

Even though Amara was exuding her usual optimisim and confidence, something in Penny's gut just didn't sit right. She narrowed her eyes just a touch, trying to read her sister. She was certain Amara was believing her own words, but Penny was going to keep an eye on her. Check in a bit more often, until she was confident that her sister was really okay with everything. "It is a beautiful morning," she agreed hesitantly, eyes glancing now to the balcony railing. It had been so gorgeous when she'd gone for her run this morning, it had reminded her of her morning in Morocco with Wes. That had been the best trip.

"Oh? I'm doing perfect," she said with her practiced smile. "Things with Hailey are going fantastic, she's doing the circuit. Trying to keep her crown." Something that Penny found just a touch ridiculous, if only because Hailey was fifty times better than anyone else on the circuit. Penny may have also been a bit biased.

She seemed to have smoothed some of Penny's worries, which helped to relax Amara that little bit more. She took another sip of her coffee, then motioned toward her sister with the mug. "Do you want a cup?" she offered. It would be easy enough to get a cup from the kitchen sent out here without either of them needing to move, after all.

"Ooh, that's so exciting! Did you give her an actual crown? She deserves one for being such a badass," she said with a decisive nod. And honestly, if anyone could pick out the perfect crown for the dueling queen, it would be Penny. She didn't think anyone outside a monarchy had as many crowns as her sister did.

"Yes please," she said to her sister's offer of coffee. She hadn't had hers yet, she only usually drank water until after her run. Wes had caught her just after, before she had even started her coffee.

The change of subject seemed rather abrupt, but she was already working on a way to bring it back to Amara's night. She needed to know who it was, because if the justice system didn't do her sister justice... Well, Penny would see to it that the man wasn't able to potentially hurt anyone ever again. If Wes hadn't already seen to that, that was. "I've been looking for the perfect one, I've given her a couple I think by now. I need to find just the right one though, I have an idea, I've just yet to find it," she admitted, freely talking of her girlfriend. She had still yet to really tell their brothers, but they were busy with their own things. Weren't they?

"Do you happen to have any self defense items?" she asked suddenly, realizing she had a few things at the shop that were discrete enough.

Picking her wand up from the little table next to her chair (heating her coffee wandless was easy, but pouring and prepping a cup in the flat took a little more direction), she flicked her wand, and a minute later, and mug of coffee came gliding out the still-open sliding door and stopped in front of Penny, hovering steadily.

"If anyone can find the perfect one, it's you," she declared, voicing the thought she'd had just moments before. "It's so weird, all three of you coupled up at the same time! Rhys probably thinks we don't know he's seeing anyone seriously, but I got Manny to tell me. I'm thinking we should throw all your SO's into the fire at once! I can host the perfect little dinner party here, they can bring Alex and Mia, and you can bring Hailey, and then no one will feel like the spotlight is entirely on them," she suggested, already imagining the meal she would cater and the place settings. She loved a good party!

Penny's question distracted her, but not enough to pull her out of the dinner party fantasy. She waved a hand negligently. "I'm set, of course! But back to the dinner party! We should definitely go bold! Full Indian spread. We have to know if your girls can handle the full experience. But we'll definitely leave mum and dad off for the first one. Ooh, I'm so excited now! It will be tricky to coordinate schedules, but I'll figure it out!"

Unfortunately for Penny, Amara knew her too well. The talk of relationships, dinners, mum and dad, had Penny ready to bolt. It took far more focus than she was willing to admit to take that cup of coffee, not spilling it into her own lap. There wasn't a chance she was ready for meeting the family, especially not with the parents. While it did seem the perfect idea, Penny wasn't willing to commit to any sort of date. Not just then. "I'm busy that day, I don't think we'll be able to make it," she said politely, before taking a sip from her coffee.

Could she get her sister to think about something other than this silly dinner party? "What do you mean by you're set? I need more information, would you have been able to keep this man off you? What if Wes hadn't been there," she was distracted, she had been distracted just long enough to let her sister get a bit lost in her fantasy. Penny wasn't going to play nice, not when it came to her sister being hurt.

Amara scoffed and rolled her eyes at the ridiculous rebuttal of the idea. "You don't even know what day it will be, silly. You're not getting out of it!" she declared. She'd definitely already decided this would happen, even if she had to wait until later in the summer to sort out the schedules. Penny was in love with Hailey, she knew it. She'd never seen her sister date anyone exclusively for this long before, and considering the history there, she was positive Penny was head over heels.

Shooting her sister a look, as if the questions were tedious and pointless, Amara waved a hand negligently. "Of course I would have! I know my wandless magic isn't top notch, but I can direct a burst of wild magic as well as the next person! Some guys are just self-entitled jerks, even more with my fame, but it's nothing I can't handle. Seriously, you worry way too much, Pen. I'm totally good!" she insisted.

There was a raised brow sort of look over the coffee cup at her sister, not exactly answering. She wasn't going to worry too much, Manny rarely had a free moment away from the hospital. She was certain it would take a bit before anyone could even come to matching his schedule.

Instead, she hoped they might focus on Amara's wandless magic. Then it clicked, and she knew that she'd regret it later, but she thought she might have a way to get what they both wanted. "Alright, what if I promise to do this ridiculous dinner thing? I want something from you in return. I want you to let Hailey teach you a couple of things. Just a few things that'll pack a punch," she bargained, her stomach giving a flip.

Penny was actually bargaining with her? Amara realized then that her sister must have been really shaken up by this whole thing, and while she thought that was sweet, there really was no chance she was letting the opportunity to get what she wanted slip by. Her eyes widened with excitement. "Ooh, that would be amazing! My agent will love that! Just imagine the parts it would open me up to. Not that we always do legit magic in physical scenes, but knowing the right ways to move would be such a boon! You're brilliant, Penny!"

So what if she wasn't focusing on Penny's intended purpose for the bargain. They would both be getting what they wanted, and that was what counted, wasn't it?

Suspicious, Penny didn't like how easily Amara agreed. It was working in her favor though, she just needed to warn her girlfriend. There was little doubt that her girlfriend would mind, she just felt guilty that she had volunteered Hailey without asking first.

"Yes, very brilliant," she mocked her sister teasingly, taking another sip of her coffee. "Have you been looking at any other roles? Anything good?" she asked curiously, not wanting to let the conversation slip into this siblings dinner talk. Maybe they could still put it off for a moment.

The acceptance of the tangent as the new topic of conversation was a relief, as her career was generally was safe topic. "Ooh, yeah, you remember that mum and daughter holiday dramedy I was telling you about before? I totally got the part! We start filming next week, and they're anticipating it will be ready for release before Hogwarts goes back."

There had been tons of rehearsals, and she knew there had been a few unexpected delays, but she was quite optimistic about the movie.

Now that the topics were on something a bit safer, she slipped her phone from her pocket to message her girlfriend. A short explanation, that she had volunteered her to teach her sister a few self defense moves, before she slid it back into the invisible pocket.

"Oh, that's fantastic!" she gushed, swirling the cup in her hands. It would keep her sister out of clubs for a minute. "It may end up being the biggest hit, all of the kids taking their last summer date to see it," she said, certain her sister's star was just going to keep rising. She was proud in a ridiculous chest-puffy sort of way.

"I know, right?! It's going to be amazing! The dinner party will definitely have to wait until filming is wrapped. It's too important to juggle with filming. I wouldn't want to miss something for it because I was too distracted! But we can totally do that sisters brunch date sometime soon. I know Kenzie's done filming Grace now. I mean, until they're renewed, because they obviously will be. That show is insanely dramatic!"

And she kept hoping there might be a perfect role for her on it soon, but that wasn't going to stop her from taking other rolls in the meantime. Amara wanted everything; she wouldn't deny it. And she would fight and work her arse off to get what she wanted. Though she did tend to charm her way into what she wanted rather than having to fight for it. It was one of her many talents, if she did say so herself.

There were far too many things going on, now there was a sister's brunch? Wouldn't that just be... Weird. She had no other word for it. She'd go though, she knew Hailey would get a kick out of it. It would be easier than meeting the entire family at once, wouldn't it? She didn't know if she was ready for that.

"You've been watching?" she asked amused, brows raised. "Who's your favorite character?" she asked curiously, making small talk on the show now as she took another sip of her coffee. She needed to do this more often, not just because an old flame had told her that she needed to check in with her sister.

Amara didn't even try to hide her laugh at that question, though she did nod her head in affirmation. "Come on, let's go in. We can make breakfast and gush about the show!" she suggested, already standing up and grabbing both their coffee mugs to take them back inside. She fully expected Penny to go along with it, and if it would keep her sister off the topic of her terrible night, all the better.
