Katarina blinked and closed her eyes as the pain suddenly showed on Mia's face. "Sorry," she breathed, her own eyes also welling up. She wanted to say something else but the words wouldn't come. As Mia stepped back she gave her the tiniest of awkward smiles and lifted her hand in farewell before she was left behind by the pop of apparition.
She looked around at the scattered remains of her date and dropped back onto the sofa if a puff of petticoats, her face buried in her hands as she started to cry. Shortly she would banish the ice cream back to the freezer. Shortly she would give up on normal clothes in favour of comfy pyjamas. Shortly she would let herself go wallow in a magically heated bath. Right now she just needed a good, cleansing cry.
