Completely unable to help herself, Mia burst into laughter at Katarina's genuine horror and confusion at the thought of anywhere not being kind to customers. "Maybe they're catering to the masochists?" she suggested, her voice still thick with amusement. "I really couldn't say, but I suppose it would be an intriguing concept as a patron, if I were to go into it knowing that it's their schtick. Like, my parents told me about this restaurant they went to in Florida where they'll cut off your necktie if you come with one on. It seems wild to me, but I imagine it makes sense from a marketing perspective? Like, having that one thing that makes you stand out from others." One would have to have thick skin and a strong, if not twisted, sense of humor to patron those sorts of places, though.
As Trina answered, Mia couldn't help the way her mind drifted back to when she and Rhys had talked about children in the abstract like this. She was doing her best not to compare them, to evaluate each relationship on its own merits and depths and connections, but Trina's enthusiasm was such a stark contrast to Rhysand's cautious ambivalence, even if he'd insisted children wasn't a deal breaker for him. Dom had been cautious about the topic of children, too, and as her ex flitted through her mind, she was struck again by how much Trina reminded her of Dom.
Ugh. Why did feelings have to be so complicated and confusing?!
"I definitely want kids someday," she answered honestly, refusing to hold back as that would be counterproductive to her goals. "I'm not so great with toddlers, but babies and post potty-trained kids are amazing and so much fun!" Not that she thought the toddler stages were bad enough to forego having children altogether. She did wondering how Trina's health might affect her in that role, but she supposed that was a long way off even if they did stay together, and more to the point, it was entirely up to Trina to evaluate what she could handle. "My parents had a big family. I've always wanted one too," she admitted.
