Having Iris over was the best way to truly welcome herself home. While she had been home for weeks, back to work even, she still hadn’t really gone out. There hadn’t been dates with Gavin, messages with Teddy, or any of the usual men she’d reach out to to let know she was back. The only big splash she made when she got home was the Winstagram post of her bedroom. Even that had taken her weeks to post, it wasn’t like her. She had felt just a touch different since getting back from her three month long adventure.

The petite blonde finished brewing the tea at her stovetop, before she came to take a seat at her kitchen table with Iris. The tea kettle was set on a special mat that absorbed the heat, delicate teacups set up around, with sugar and cream to go with it all. There was one thing she loved so much about being in England, tea was big. It was a last option to most in America. She enjoyed that small difference.

“I think my favorite part of the entire trip was being out on the deck in pitch black. It was so strange, the stars seemed so bright. You couldn’t see a thing in front of your nose without your wand. There was something absolutely beautiful and so intimate,” she gushed, pouring herself a cup of tea. Once the kettle was set back down in the center, she snagged one of the cupcakes she’d pick up that morning from Sweet Nothings. She had maybe fallen in love with Phoenix while they had been away, something she was keeping secret even from herself.

Iris sipped her tea, contentedly listening to Eve's story. She could almost picture it, the darkness, the light spray of sea air, the intimacy of knowing that there was no one else for miles around.

"It sounds like something out of a romance novel," she sighed, setting down her teacup before taking a cupcake for herself. Iris loved romance novels, so it was a compliment. "I wish someone would whisk me away on an adventure."

Could that be why it had been so easy for Eve to fall for them? Was it because they had been one of those rogues right out of one of her romance novels. "Did I ever tell you how I met them?" she asked curiously, stirring her tea round with her spoon. "Ran into them in the stacks of Flourish and Blott's, where they used their height to help a short woman out. Ended with us at Taboo," she said it in such a happy tone, her cheeks going a bit pink. She definitely had feelings for them, but she knew they weren't looking for anything serious. Neither was she.

"Someone will," she sounded so sure, resisting the urge to reach across the table to hold Iris' hand. "We can hold another mixer at the club, you could throw yourself into the mix," she suggested innocently, lifting her cup to take a sip.

"Oh, my god." Iris rolled her eyes. "You had an actual meet cute. That's adorable." She paused. "And a little kinky if you ended up at the club. But on brand." It was hard not to be impressed and she liked how Eve was blushing a bit - Eve absolutely deserved someone who made her feel like that.

She pulled a face, shaking her head. "Maybe. Maybe not. I'm not really in the mood for dating right now. I have plenty of toys to keep me occupied." Toys weren't great for cuddling, though, and she did sort of miss that.

The word kinky was met with a knowing smirk, and a quick nod of her head. "You've no idea," she said, just before taking another sip from her cup. That had been a fantastic day at work. She wondered if he might enjoy coming back to the club sometime as her guest.

"Who said anything about dating?" she teased playfully, setting her cup down. "A good fling, where you just get out there, could always be fun. Heck, you could even do a girl's trip with some friends, that could be fun too. Summer is coming, you should do something for you. Eat, pray, love it," she said, talking with her hands a bit. Iris needed time off though, she thought it'd do her some good. Maybe she'd meet someone there that'd warm her bed.

"Hey, I actually like dating," Iris said defensively, breaking her cupcake in half. "Getting to know someone, the things they like, discovering all these new things..." But Iris had the unfortunate tendency to go in too hard, too fast. That led to awkward things like breaking up with her ex and having to live together until their lease ran out.

She wrinkled her nose. "I've never done the travelling thing. I don't even know where I'd want to go if I did."

"I envy that about you," she admitted in a soft voice. Eve had gotten so used to learning just what they wanted her to know, that she hadn't really thought about dating. "I can't tell you the last time I was on a real date of any sort," she sounded as surprised as she was.

Traveling wasn't for everyone, Eve understood that. Her own sister was one of those very people, it had been a small miracle that Alex had moved in with her. "Should you ever decide on one, I'd love to help you plan it. I've been all over, I'd swear I was a traveler in another life," she shared her little secret, knowing she was a bit reckless with how easily she could pick up and leave.

"Really?" Iris was surprised about that. She rather thought that Eve loved her no-strings-attached lifestyle. "I haven't been on an actual date in forever either," she offered. "But on purpose. I have an unhealthy tendency to jump headfirst into relationships." Iris knew she was a bit of a cliché and she wanted to avoid that for a while.

She shrugged. "Maybe I'll take a break somewhere in the summer. Flit around a Greek island for a week." Iris smiled as an idea came to her. "Or Italy. Rome. I could go with Kenzie." Her cousin could have her own Roman Holiday moment after the restrictions of her filming schedule.

"I enjoy the sort of relationships I have, it was just very good to have someone see me," she said, finding her words as she played with her spoon in her tea once again. For most of the men in her life, she represented something or someone. For one, it was that they enjoyed being financially dominated, for another it was that they got some satisfaction in it. Phoenix had seen her, not the people pleasing mask she enjoyed hiding behind.

Just hearing Iris speak of enjoying Italy had her reminiscing of her own trip to Rome just a few years prior. "You'll love all of it, definitely do that. I'll be here to cover anything that comes up," she encouraged her friend, happily picking at her cupcake.

Iris nodded in understanding. That was a really nice way of putting it, feeling that you were being seen by someone for who you really were. "Do you think you'll carry on seeing them?" When someone liked you, despite any flaws you might have, it was unlike anything else.

"It'll be a little while before I get a chance to go anywhere," she assured Eve, wanting her to know that she wasn't about to run off at the drop of a hat. Iris felt a bit bad thinking that after Eve had made a quick exit for her trip earlier in the year. As it happened, she loved the new role that she'd grown into at work and honestly felt more refreshed by that change than by taking a few days off.

The question was one that Eve had conversation about that very topic just the other day. She nodded her head, popping another piece of cupcake into her mouth. "Though it's very casual, neither of us are looking for something... More. We enjoy the relationship, for lack of a better word, that we have. A casual sort of agreement, with the benefits of friendship," she finally admitted, knowing she had feelings for Phoenix. That was a problem for future Eve though, she knew not to let her heart get attached.

A warm laugh left her at Iris' reassurances, waving her away with a hand. "Don't even worry. I haven't congratulated you yet, have I?" she seemed to have realized it suddenly. "I'm so excited you're now management, you're kicking some serious ass. Congratulations for the very deserved promotion," she said animatedly, so excited over her friend's promotion.

That really did sound like a relationship, Iris thought, even if Eve didn't appear to like that word. She hoped the agreement worked out for the best.

Iris tried not to cringe, a little uncomfortable with the praise. "Thank you. But it just made sense to step up a bit when you went on your trip. I never expected Nate to actually make it a thing." When she'd first joined the staff at Taboo, it had been a welcome change after a few boring months at the Ministry. Now it felt like a second home where different parts of her personality could coexist. "But it's been really good so far." She smiled. "I'm just glad I didn't wreck the place while you were gone!"

"I had every confidence you'd keep it all under control," she admitted, popping the last bits of her cupcake into her mouth a moment later. "I've been meaning to ask, are you still doing shows? I had been thinking, I like to dabble in them one in a while. Would you be interested in doing a tribute to the muggle musical Chicago with me? I could be Roxie Hart and you could be Velma? I just really adored the outfit I had gotten for Nate's birthday, I need another excuse to wear it." Eve wasn't ashamed to admit it, she was not however going to mention it was because she sort of wanted Phoenix to come see her perform it sometime.

Iris frowned. "No, not at the moment. I decided to take a step back from the shows when Nate offered me the job." She didn't, she explained, want to try and balance doing everything she'd done before plus the new responsibilities all at once. "But I think I'm ready to start dipping my toe back in."

Eve's suggestion brought up a memory of visiting a simulation room with Penny. It was bittersweet now that Penny was firmly off limits.

"You know," she mused, "I don't think we've got any double acts on the bill at the moment. That could be really fun."

"Good, then let's do it. We can do anything you like, take some time to get our routine together, then wow 'em," she said excitedly. "Just think of all the costumes! Oh this is going to be so much fun." She burst into laughter, snickering to herself.

"Come on Barbie, let's go party," she sung in a playful and high pitched voice, rolling her eyes at herself. "I swear, I don't know how to turn it off sometimes," she admitted. "New rule, no more talk of work. What about you, what've you been up to?"

Brushing a crumb from her shirt, Iris pulled a face. "Honestly? Not a lot outside of work. My mum hasn't been too well, so I've spent a lot of time with her." She gave a small shrug. "Which was nice, really. We watched a lot of movies and I picked up a couple of commissions to work on." It had been relaxing and stressful in equal measure, so she was exceptionally glad that Persephone seemed to be on the mend.

"I've just been very boring, very single... But things are feeling more normal now, especially with you back."

"Would you want to go on a date with me?" she asked suddenly, having been debating it with herself for a few minutes. It'd be fun to take Iris out, wine and dine the other woman, spoil her the way anyone who even think of taking Iris out should.

"It'll help you get your toes wet again, it'll be my treat. You can pop my cherry, so to speak," she said with a playful waggle of her brows. "I've never taken anyone on a date, let alone paid for the date. I want to do this, what do you say?"

Iris was taken aback by the question, but once Eve explained she laughed. "Okay. You're on. Date night."

It would be fun, she thought. No commitment, just a nice night out with a friend. Maybe that was exactly what she needed to get back into dating without rushing into a relationship. "You'd better take me somewhere nice," she teased.
