Katarina H sent you a message!

Trying to work out where the line between deep and really personal/private is: My parents believe in answering children's questions with as much detail as they think is reasonable. All my friends pre-Hogwarts passed on questions through me and found out a lot of things their parents probably didn't want them to know, but at least it was as accurate as possible! Yes, that included sex and death as well as poop and weird bugs.

Mia sent you a message!
Ooh that's amazing! My mum was like that too, though I didn't get so far as channeling questions for my friends. That might have made it easier to make friends though. Kids can be brutal, and I was kind of a weird and chubby kid.

What languages are you fluent in?? I'm bilingual, Spanish and English. I've always thought it would be fun to know more!

My parents were conscientious of that too, but we definitely did the whole leaving a treat out for Santa on Christmas Eve and one lovely but useful gift from Santa on Christmas morning, the rest from them. And they always did the big gifts from them.

Well, aesthetic doesn't have to mean personality as well, right? I'm not usually much for the hyped up femme look for myself, but it really is so lovely and put together. I color my hair all the time! Usually purple, but sometimes I like to do blue or burgundy. Every once in a while I go back to my natural black hair, but I think the color is just really fun!

I'm pansexual, which I know some people get weird about, but I'm truly far more interested in the core of people than their genitals or gender identity, if that makes sense?.

Oh no, the two can be a total mis-match according to stereotypes. I'm sure I fit some of the stereotype, but I'm also a fan of sarcasm, and a wider range of music than people seem to think. Love a heavy baseline. I'm also a member of the permanent hair colour club. But I'm just a blonde with red ambitions! Far more dramatic.

What does that mean for you? I know people vary in what it means for them. My best friend is bi, but if you ask he's got far more specifics. I got lucky not having to really come out because never expressed interest in anything but girls, and I was never pressured or presumed to either.

That makes sense. And red is so fun! I have a thing for redheads Does your hair hold it well? Whenever I try red, it fades so much faster!

For me, I just don't really care what genitals or gender identity a person has, because that's just packaging, that's not ~who they really are. I've been attracted to women, men, non-binary, trans, and none of that really impacted whether or not I was attracted. I just think people are beautiful and wonderful, and I wouldn't want to miss out on that one person my soul connects with so completely because their packaging didn't fit a certain expectation.

That's wonderful that your sexuality just was! When I told my mum, she just chuckled and said she knew and reminded me that she was bi and that she hoped I found someone wonderful. It helped that my older brother had already come out as bi, so I was already fairly aware that mum wasn't straight even though she and dad are so solid.

I think because I don't have to bleach my hair it holds better than average, so I'm lucky, and I'm used to the routine now. Plus because I use curlers on my hair and don't wash it every day to preserve the curl I avoid some of the regular washing meaning it loses colour thing.

I can understand that, even if I've only knowingly been attracted to women cis and trans. Personality will win out over looks in the end, and the right personality just makes someone more beautiful.

Oh you're so lucky. My family are all tragically straight. Okay it's not tragic for them, but I lacked instant lgbtq family.

You are quite lucky with that!

I think with just basic physical attraction, I'm generally more attracted to women, but definitely not exclusively. It really is about the person for me :)

This century has been such a turning point for the lgbtq+ community! It makes me feel so sad when I think that even just thirty years ago, I would have had to be careful about who I told or who I flirted with (beyond basic consideration, of course!)

It's so true. Once I got out of school and realised history could be interesting in the right context or with the right motivation I started reading up on all sorts of people that got hidden from history: women, lgbtq+ folks, people of colour, muggleborns, disabled people. It always makes me sad that you have to read between the lines and work past sometimes wilfully ignorant historians to find the people and their contributions and stories.

I've never really got caught up in reading history stuff, I don't always have the attention span for that. I'm a much more hands on sort of person, though I like listening to audiobooks while I'm working at times. Even that can be a bit difficult sometimes as I get caught up in the work. I'm in engineering, btw, that will probably make it make more sense.

I've learned to be pretty patient and I feel like nonfiction is easier to dip in and out of than fiction if you pick the right books. It's my intellectually stimulating thing, whereas my work is more creatively stimulating. I make cards and accessories.

What sort of engineering do you do? I know just enough to ask the question and have a vague understanding of the answer if it's equivalent to a muggle type of engineering because my brother is a civil engineer.

That makes sense, though I'm not sure I'd do any better listening to a history audiobook. It seems like something I would easily tune out.

It's not really like muggle engineering at all. It's more spell research combined with product development. I worked at Wiseacre's right out of school but I finally landed an internship with Shingleton last year, and it's been brilliant!

Yes I can absolutely see that. I like that those force me to concentrate on just one thing, and sometimes when I don't mind falling asleep mid-read.

Oh that sounds fascinating! And far more interesting than whatever it is my brother does. How long is your internship, or have you already transitioned to a long-term job?

I don't think we're running out of conversation, care to test if that holds out in person too?

It's a two year internship, so I've got just less than a year left and then hopefully they'll keep me on long-term. They're a fantastic company to work for, and I've already learned so much. I'm quite optimistic about it!

I would :) Any preference on when and where? Weekends tend to be better for me, as sometimes my hours can run long during the week depending on the experiments in progress.

Oh the good type of internship, amazing. I've heard stories. Although they were other fields.

My schedule can be pretty busy nearly any day, and a bit subject to change, but Sunday afternoons are probably my best time if you prefer weekends. How about the café in the middle of St James' Park? If I'm up to it the weather is nice we might be able to go for a walk around the lake and look at some ducks. If you prefer magical we could go to one of the pubs.

So are all my family. And if we make it 2.30 so I can account for hiccups on my end that would be great.

Looking forward to seeing you.
