When the Magpies had matches on a Sunday it put a bit of a dent in family brunch plans, but an alternative weekend routine appeared to be emerging with a stroll up to the main house on Saturday evenings for dinner or drinks. Dagny really enjoyed it and she'd actually been a little annoyed when she'd had to go to a concert for work last weekend.

Finding herself alone with Thad in his parents' house, she reached for his hand. Tonight they'd told the Notts about their plan to build a home. Sure, they didn't have the land or the architect yet, but it was something they were actively working on.

"I'm pretty sure you mum was this close to crying with joy," Dagny joked as she held up her thumb and forefinger. Their plans were confirmation that she wasn't going to steal Thad away to the other side of the world.

Thad's lips twitched in amusement. "The painting, but I'm sure she'll appreciate the creative license." He didn't always understand his sister's art, but there was no questioning her talent and intuition, and he'd always loved everything she'd gifted him. He was certain they'd end up with the perfect piece of art for their new home, whether they asked for it or not.

Them. The non-binary pronoun caught his attention, and he wondered if the architect was non-binary or if the name was androgynous enough that Dagny didn't want to assume their gender. He didn't really understand the whole non-binary thing, but he also realized he didn't have to understand it to respect it. "Yeah? That's fantastic! We've got a bye-week in a couple weeks, though ours starts early because we've got a Thursday game next week, so I should be able to work a meeting in pretty easily." He'd made sure to put his training and game schedule on a calendar at home to help them schedule things more smoothly.

Though Dagny knew that the bye-week probably wouldn't affect Thad's training schedule too much, it was nice to know that the might have a little more time to move their plans forward. "I'll set something up," she promised happy to take that responsibility. She didn't know much about the architect beyond pictures of their work and the fact that their branding just seemed to use a first initial and surname. The work spoke for itself, though, a mixture of traditional and modern fixtures.

Her lips twitched with a little amusement. "Something I wonder if I should be worried about how easy things are for us." Dagny's tone became softer. "Or maybe we're just meant to be."

"Perfect," Thad said simply, happy to let her handle that part of it and trusting that she'd schedule it in a way that made it easy for him to attend, providing the architect's schedule cooperated.

Thad's smile softened, and he brushed a kiss against her knuckles, his thumb stroking lightly over her fingers. "Meant to be, definitely," he said decisively. Of course, a recent conversation with his Uncle Brian took that opportunity to drift through his mind, and he wondered if it would be awkward to tell her about it now.

He didn't want to keep things from her, though, and it wasn't as though he put much stock in the advice given him. "I was talking to my Uncle Brian about it the other day, and he suggested we draw up papers clearly defining division of assets should things not work out. I'm sure there's some wisdom in it, but..."

Before he could finish the thought, his mum chimed in, though he hadn't noticed her come back in the room. "Your Uncle Brian is horribly un-romantic about such things, and that's hardly something you two need to decide on now." Pansy was of the opinion that it wouldn't be necessary at all. It was obvious Thad and Dagny were going to make it.

Gods, how had she met the love of her life on a dating app of all things?

Listening to Thad, Dagny could see where his uncle was coming from. Really, though, she felt as though they were coming into things on an equal footing and was actually quite glad about the timing of Pansy's return and her interjection. She shot her a grateful smile.

"We don't have assets to divide yet," she pointed out. "We need to find somewhere to build this house before we can... build the house."

Thad chuckled as the women teamed up on him, dropping Dagny's hand to hold his up in defeat, not having felt strongly about it anyway. "I know we don't, but he's always thinking ten steps ahead."

Pansy snorted rather inelegantly at that. "Solicitors," she tutted with a shake of her head. "Haven't you contacted Sally Townsend yet?" she asked her son, eying him shrewdly. She'd recommended the realtor weeks ago, at the first casual comment Thad had made about the cottage being a bit small for two. "She'll be perfect in helping you two find the best plot of land and a wide variety of homes to tour for ideas," she said, now that she understood the young couple's intentions a bit better. And honestly, Thad should be glad she was focusing on this and not pushing him to go ring shopping. She was already nudging Peter about that, anyway.

"Ahh, I haven't yet, but I will, mum, promise. First thing Monday." He lifted a hand to rub over the back of his neck, his grin turning a bit bashful at being called out. It would be good for them to have some ideas before they met with the architect, wouldn't it?

"We'll need a solicitor when we find somewhere to buy," Dagny remarked lightly, trying not to laugh at Thad's surrender. "My Uncle Adrian's been trying to give me advice too." With her parents and grandparents back at home in the Caribbean, he and Aunt Alicia were her closest parental figures, geographically speaking. Not to disparage her parents, but her aunt and uncle were a bit more clued up about the day to day realities of life over here, so she was grateful for the support.

"Maybe it's just your uncle's way of offering his services?"

"Probably, yeah, but he's a muggle solicitor," he pointed out, not with bias, but as a matter of practicality. He knew Uncle Brian had studied magical law extensively after marrying Aunt Natalie, but he was still only licensed in the muggle world. "Not that I mind the advice. It's good to have guidance as we figure all of this out," he added, realizing he was sounding a bit ungrateful at the look his mum had given him. It was a bit scary how she could cow him with just a look.

Pansy clapped her hands together, holding them against her chest. "All things in time, dears. But oh! I cannot wait. Dagny, love, we'll have to go shopping when the time comes. You'll need so many things for the new house!" And she did hope that the young woman would be amenable to such things with her. She'd not had that sort of relationship with her own mother-in-law, not that anyone could with Charis Nott, or even with her own mother. She'd always wanted better for her own children.

"Oh, right." Dagny still got a little muddled over who was who amongst Thad's aunts and uncles, but now that he mentioned it she remembered feeling a little relieved to know that there was someone non-magical in Thad's family, just as her own father was.

Her hand quietly found Thad's again, always seeking out every opportunity to touch him when she could. "I'd like that. You have such great taste." She had to trust that Pansy would let her and Thad have the final say on their own things, just like she trusted that Theo would rein her in if she got too enthusiastic.

It felt as though her heart swelled to twice its size with Dagny's warm response, and she didn't care one bit of the young woman was just humoring her. She wanted a good relationship with her children's significant others, and she was one accustomed to getting what she wanted. "Lovely. Even if it's not for months yet."

"Rhubarb pie, anyone?" Theo asked gaily as he walked into the room, a tray floating ahead of him laden with four wide, shallow bowls. While his wife might normally prefer they take dessert in the informal dining room, he knew she would indulge the more casual sitting room with as good a mood as she was in.

Thad's stomach growled, which seemed impossible with as much as he'd had at dinner, but then he was training hard, and his dad was fantastic in the kitchen. "Ooh, you've not had dad's rhubarb pie yet, have you?" he asked Dagny as he took two bowls from the tray, passing one to her.

"I haven't," Dagny admitted. "I can even remember the last time I had rhubarb." She took the bowl, stifling a laugh as she heard Thad's stomach grumble. "It smells delicious," Dagny told Theo warmly. Everything the man cooked was incredible and eating his food really felt like home now.

She picked up her spoon, not sure she could eat the whole slice after a very filling dinner. "We were just talking about house plans. Maybe when we've got some good news we'll have to host dinner at the cottage?"

It wasn't his favorite pie by any means, but it was delicious, as was most of the things his dad cooked. He settled back against the cushions, resting his ankle on the opposite knee in a way that had his lifted knee nudging hers. He grinned at her suggestion, marveling at how easy it was to envision their future together.

"Ooh, that's a splendid idea!" Pansy said, taking her own bowl off the tray as it floated by. She absolutely adored the thought that the woman Thad had fallen in love with would think to host a dinner when there was good news to share. She dreaded the thought that any of her children would end up with someone who would announce big news through social media or some such nonsense.

The nudge of his knee against hers made Dagny smile. The idea of home being a person was schmaltzy and sentimental but felt incredibly true in that moment. Thad was her forever person and she'd clearly lucked out in terms of in-laws - Dagny knew she'd marry him one day and she'd be honoured to take their family name when she did.

She nudged her knee back against Thad's. "You'll probably be the first to know when we've got news," she assured Pansy. Dagny wasn't trying to score points, but as far as she could see it wouldn't hurt.

Pansy couldn't help the thought that Dagny vying for favorite daughter-in-law this early, whether intentionally or not, was very Slytherin of her, and goodness, how she approved! "We'll appreciate that," she said lightly before taking a bite of her pie.

"Please mum, we know better than to let you find out big news from any other source," Thad chimed in facetiously, causing his mother to tut admonishingly and sit a bit taller. She didn't refute the statement, though. "Besides, I think we'll have fun throwing dinner parties. We'll do pizza delivered and use disposable plates. Maybe even order a keg!" He was rather proud of himself that he managed to get through the suggestions with a mostly straight face, but he couldn't hold it for long, especially not with the look his mother sent his way, and he broke out in laughter.

Dagny made a mental note to text Addison later to catch up with her. It was surprisingly beneficial to have a work friend who was dating your boyfriend's brother.

She had just taken a spoonful of pie when Thad suggested that they have a pizza party, of all things. Dagny gave a choking bark of laughter, covering her mouth to try and retain some dignity and not splutter pie crust on the carpet. "I thought I was supposed to be the uncultured American?" she joked after clearing her throat, though even as she said it she knew her accent had mellowed to something closer to her family's over the last year.

Thad widened his eyes and waggled his brows at her, still not quite able to contain his laughter. "Is that really what they do in America? I thought that was just the movies exaggerating it," he teased lightly. He didn't think anyone could ever accuse Dagny of being uncultured. Not that she was some elitist snob. She was perfect, in his opinion.

"Remind me sometime to tell you about the time some seniors broke the school rules and ordered pizza from New York to Ilvermorny," she said with a grin. She hadn't been one of those doing the ordering, but she might have accepted a slice or two in exchange for not writing about it for the school newspaper. It was the one and only time she'd accepted any kind of bribery and the pizza had been so good that she didn't really regret it.

His brows furrowed a bit as he looked at her. "I've heard Chicago pizza is the best," he commented casually, wondering if he might actually manage to get her to smack him or throw something at him. He didn't understand the rivalry between New York and Chicago pizza, but there were a few Americanisms that he thought were fair game to use to attempt riling his lovely, multi-cultural girlfriend up.

Dagny's eyebrows raised. Was he really asking that question seriously? She hoped not but at some point she really would have to take him to New York City for a trip. Thad had survived some of the spicier cuisine of her home island, but there were a few culinary treats that the Big Apple had to offer, including an authentic slice of New York pizza.

"I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer," she retorted, adopting a haughty tone and lifting her chin.
