January's full moon had fully kicked Maria's arse. It had taken her nearly a full week to recover, despite the new moon cycle, and around day four her father Campbell had checked her into St. Mungo's worried sick. Turns out, there had been something behind it after all. Her Wolfsbane potion - the same dosage she'd been on since she was, like, fourteen - wasn't doing the job anymore. After too much poking and prodding for her liking and far too many people, like, speaking to her, she was released a week later on the 12th with a new dosage going forward and fingers crossed. It took Campbell until yesterday, the 19th, to feel comfortable leaving their home for more than the quickest of errands no matter how many times she told him she was just tired and had a headache and she was fine. Really, Maria couldn't remember spending this much time with anyone but maybe the house staff since she was at Hogwarts. Finally, yesterday morning, he had needed to go to Spain on some client issue urgently and this morning she had convinced the staff to take the week off. She could fend for herself, but mostly she just wanted some quiet and some gods-damned alone time already. Even if she didn't see them most of the time they were there, she always heard their noises throughout the house - cleaning, cooking, the WWN on in the background... Normally that was comforting, but today it was like nails on a chalkboard.
So, she surprised even herself when she kipped out to The Leaky Cauldron in the afternoon to pick up her dinner for later. It wasn't that she wanted to be among crowds (and she should have thought of the act that it was Saturday), but she was craving a large plate of Hannah's Cottage Pie. She also ordered a side salad, an order of chips, and Sticky Toffee Pudding with Potted Cream for dessert. Yeah, it was a lot of food, but she hadn't eaten normally in weeks, after all, not with her Dad hovering and even worse before that, hospital food.
As she waited at the bar for her food, she kept her head down, her eyes trained on her phone, and ignored the crowds before her enjoying a pint with friends or hot cocoa with their kids on a break from shopping.
