Yesterday's win and been hard-won, the teams tied before Thad managed to catch the snitch, and the relief he'd felt at the feel of the wings fluttering between his fingers had been ample. Losing the first game of the season, failing to catch the snitch, had shaken his confidence. He was still riding the high of the win today.

The team had had a short debriefing practice this morning, but they didn't have another game until next Sunday, so they had a little extra time off this weekend. He'd suggested to Hunter that they grab lunch and catch up after practice, feeling a bit like he'd lost touch with his friendships a bit as things had become more serious with Dagny. Somehow, he had a feeling Hunter could relate.

Victory Bar was just starting to get busy when they arrived, but it wasn't long before they were shown to a table and had ordered. "Harrison's holding his own better than I expected," he commented lightly once their waiter had walked away. He'd heard about how hard Hunter's brother had worked to earn the spot on the team, but it wasn't as though the Magpies didn't have a history of sticking with family. The Reynolds' had been a force for the team for years, with Cooper shifting to coaching after retirement.

A firm believer in true love, even love at first sight, Hunter couldn't be anything but pleased for Thad. Everyone deserved to find a love like that, something that was sure and real.

"I'm really happy for you." Hunter lifted his glass in a sort of toast. "Who's next, do you reckon? I can't picture Gavin getting wifed up."

Thad barked out a short laugh at that after setting his drink back down. "That would take a miracle!" he said, shaking his head. "Then again, Bash is dating Sofia, so apparently anything is possible." He'd never really expected Bash to care enough to bother dating, especially with the way he'd reacted last year when Thad had brought it up.

"But he'd have to find someone willing to marry his grumpy arse, and what are the odds of that?" he joked, though there was a thread of seriousness to it. He truly couldn't imagine Gavin getting married, for a number of reasons.

"What, Gómez's oldest?" Hunter realised he must have missed that news. He'd had coaching sessions with the former Keeper just a few weeks ago. From the little he knew about her, she was like the anti-Scarlett. "How did he manage that? Or maybe I don't want to know."

He pulled a face. "Gav strikes me as the sort who'll be trying to pick up twenty year olds when he's fifty."

"Yep," Thad confirmed, grinning a bit. "From what I've picked up, it started with coffee, but I haven't got the story and not sure I want to know either." Coffee seemed to be the core of the public posts about their relationship, anyway.

That image had him cringing a bit, his mind automatically imagining his dad trying to pick up a woman around his sisters' age. Not that his dad would ever leave his mum, but he couldn't help where his mind had gone. "You're probably right about that."

"That... makes a weird sort of sense." Bash was the living embodiment of don't talk to me until I've had my coffee, as they'd all learnt to their peril at school. "Well, good for him, I guess?"

Yeah, it was probably best not to dwell too much on Gavin's love life. Whatever made him happy probably wasn't going to be conventional romance.

"Guess so," Thad agreed with a small shrug. Something about it bothered him a little, but he couldn't place what it was, and it didn't make sense to keep poking at it when it really didn't affect him at all.

He smiled appreciatively when their food was brought out, launching into a story he'd heard about a team in the European League and speculating on how it might affect the battle for the World Cup this summer. It was a topic with far more solid footing, and he relaxed into the conversation.

With his eye on trying out for the Scottish national team for this year's Quidditch World Cup, Hunter was easily swept up into the conversation. He was quite happy to speculate how the scandal that seemed to be brewing around the Heidelberg Harriers might impact the German national team.

Now they just needed Jamie, Bash and Thomas and it would be like being back at Hogwarts. After what seemed like a long winter, Hunter hadn't realised how much he'd needed an afternoon like this. Somehow he had to try and maintain this balance of work, relationship and friendship. Today felt like a good start.
