RP: Finding Time for a Friend
Who: Rae + Scor
What: Errands, & Nervous Energy
When: 1/3/2028
Where: Rosa Lee's Tea Shop
Warnings: N/A
Completion Status: Ongoing

Rachel hated this part of the year. It was too early to head to Holyhead and the wasn't enough time to continue her work at V-Bar. She always felt bad even if Lisa pushed her out of the door over weekend explaining that her list of errands wasn't getting any shorter.

After a quick run Rachel had managed to stop at Quality Quidditch Supplies and McLaggen Magical sports to replenishing her broom kit and giving her broom a good once over. Laden with bags she checked her phone and realized she hadn't eaten a thing all day and pushed the door of the Tea Shop open. "Sorry," she repeated as she made her way to a secluded corner and set her bags down before queueing for one of her favorite drinks.

Scor had been bumming around all morning. He was starting to think that he might need to get a job, something to fill his time. Without having Grimauld Place to fix up, he was finding himself restless. This wasn't something he was enjoying, though he had no idea just what he wanted to do to fill his time. He was sure Uncle Theo would give him a job at Flourish and Blotts, he just didn't want to bring down the shop. He'd have to figure something out, which was why he had been popping into each shop along the way. Maybe he'd find a job that interested him.

It wasn't that he wanted to work at the Tea Shop, but he did want to grab something hot to drink before he continued on his way. He was debating if he should head home after this, when he noticed a familiar face in line. It was definitely line cutting but he made his way through the shop to where Rachel was. "Hey," he said with that wide dopey smile. "How are you? It's been a minute since I've seen you. You look good." He found himself feeling far more confident since his date with Beau Rosier.

"Hey!" Rachel hugged hiding her blushing face in his old hoodie. "Thank you." Her mouth widening into a smile as the line shifted forward.

"What are you doing?" Scor was attractive and usually more put together than this, or he was when they absconded down the coast. The hoodie looked almost caked in dust with paint speckling the front of it and his jeans.

"Tryin' to figure out life," he said very honestly, unable to stop himself. It seemed lately that he didn't know how to lie if he tried, he also hadn't dated in months. He really ought to start dating again. The hug was good though, nice to feel her burying her face in his shoulder.

"What are you up to?" he asked, shuffling forward once again as the line moved. Would he still order tea? Why not, though he gave a glance at the person that would have been between them. Should he ask if they were okay with him taking cuts? He raised a brow to the older man, who just waved his hand at the younger man to feel free.

"Prepping for the upcoming season." Rachel looked back at her bags sitting by the table at the far corner. "Working at the bar made the winter fly by. No pun intended."

Over the initial excitement at seeing her friend she took a closer look. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. "Life's a big thing to figure out." She mused as the queue moved forward. "We could get some tea and try to hash some things out, if you like."

She wasn't sure if he had anywhere else to be, but with the bulk of her shopping prep done she could definitely use some quiet time with a friend.

Scor had noticed when she looked away, so he had glanced in the direction she had. It seemed she'd been shopping, he glanced back to her with that lopsided grin of his. "I'd love to, though I doubt there's too much for me to sort out. I just need to take a job," he admitted.

They were next in line then, and Scor stepped back to allow Rachel to place her order. He was intending to pay for their drinks after he ordered.

"I could always put a word in at V-Bar. I mean if the bar life is something you're intending. You were such a hard worker and I know Mum needs the help." It didn't seem right that he would be unemployed and she didn't want to pry but she had enjoyed when they worked together and she'd be more than willing to help out with anything he needed.

Rachel stepped forward and ordered a jasmine mint tea before motioning Scor forward. "You know what you want?" She gave him a full smile.

"I'd just like Earl Grey," he ordered, before paying for both. It was as they shuffled down to wait for their order that he answered her offer. "I'd love to take you up on the offer but I can be a flake, I don't want to let your mum down. I'll be fine, I'll figure out something. It isn't about money, it's more about wanting to fill my time. Everyone seems to have something, I feel like I need to get a life, or something," he tried to say it with a laugh, but he was anxious about it all. Albie had Ori, Lyra had Ori and the second one coming any day now, and then there was there was Rachel. She had Quidditch and she was damn good.

"Didn't you fix up that sportster we took down the coast?" She tried not to sound surprised but she knew that Scor was amazing and talented but it killed her how he couldn't see it himself. "You're good with mechanics and you know you are. What about mechanic work?"

She stared at him intently. She wasn't trying to help but she would push him if he wouldn't push himself.

Large shoulders lifted in a useless shrug at her question, laughing softly. "I don't know about that, I know very little. Just enough about my bike, I'm always learning more," he said proudly, having been learning more about restoration work with his father. He was currently replacing the seat on his bike while it was too cold to ride.

"I'll figure things out," he reassured them both, taking his tea as it was set down on the counter. "Shall we?" he asked, motioning towards the bags she had been glancing at earlier.

She nodded. She stuffed her bags behind her chair, motioning for Scorpius to sit. "I'm sure you will." Part of her needed to remember that some people didn't want to be pushed. They were friends and just happened to run into each other while getting tea.

She bobbed the teabag up and down before removing it from the cup. She loved the vegetative taste of green tea but the longer the teabag sat the more it tasted like liquified lawn trimmings.

"So, what's something you're excited for?" It was such a boilerplate question but she hoped it would pull Scor out of his head a bit.

What was likely meant as an easy question, it had Scor thinking about his sister's kids again. How was Albie Ori's father? It made so much sense and boggled his mind at the same time. He shook the thoughts out, what else was he excited for? "I might be taking a trip come warmer weather. Taking the bike around, enjoying feeling the wind in my hair, that stuff," he admitted, grasping at the one idea that had formed over the past month that actually made him happy.

"What about you? Been on any good dates lately?" he asked with a playful smile, swirling the teabag in his cup as he thought about his last date. Beau Rosier, would Rachel be shocked? Would she be up for going out sometime? Just where would he want to take her, he pondered.

"Warmer weather? And just when I prepping to get back up in the chilly air." She stuck her tongue out at him. Really the cold never bothered her when she played. Her robes kept her plenty warm and her fingers hit numb long before the cold.

"It'll be good to get out and ride again." Him. She meant him. She loved the ride they had taken down the coast but she didn't want to assume that meant an open invitation and with Quidditch coming up she doubted she'd have the time.

"Nothing since our little excursion." She smirked. "It'll will most likely be work and more work until the season starts." She wanted to ask why, he asked such a pointed question, but let it lie.

A soft laugh left Scor at her teasing, giving his shoulders a useless shrug. He couldn't stand the cold, never had been able. He also couldn't bring himself to leave London. He wanted to be close to his family and friends, especially Lyra and Albie. So this was how he dealt, he went on long trips when the weather was good.

"It will be, I can't tell you the last time I was on a broom though. Do you train often?" he asked curiously, curious if he might be able to get to pop on to the pitch with her sometime. It would be interesting, a new experience for sure.

Both brows raised with interest when she said she'd just be working. "Well, we'll change that. We should go out again. I've got no idea what we'll do, but you should pick. We can do anything you like?" he offered.

"I don't know. How often do you find yourself in Stevenage?" She giggled. It seemed like a silly arrangement. She'd spend the winter tending bar and saving up money and then right before season hit she would jet off to Roger's flying school and talk strategy and play mock matches with the children.

"Honestly, with how close we were last year, I have no down that they'll have us training every day. And then there's the international team to make this year!" She could feel herself getting revved up already and the first matches didn't start for another month.

She almost burnt her lip on tea when she heard his statement. Again? Did going out that day count as a date? She replayed the day in her head as she tried to discern for herself.

She hadn't really dated anyone. Her fling with Thad petered out just as fast as it started and they had both moved one. Did that even count? I'm over thinking this. Focus.

She looked back at Scorpius waiting there in silence. He was attractive and she never said she was swearing off dating after Thad. Just that she would be more selective. "Anything I like, huh?"

There was so much life and exuberance in her. He rather enjoyed seeing her lit up as she talked about Quidditch. How close had her team come? He'd have to ask one of his mates that kept up with Quidditch. He didn't keep up with sports like he should, now though it would seem he was finding himself a reason to. The gorgeous brunette seated across from him.

"I feel like I might be walking into something, but yes, anything you'd like," he reassured her with that dopey crooked smile, shrugging. He didn't trust himself to suggest a date activity, the last date he'd planned had been taking Beau ice skating. That really hadn't been such a fantastic idea. He wondered just what she might like to do.

"It won't be anything terrible." Rachel let out a mischievous giggle. "Let's just start with drinks. I know this cozy littlecocktail bar right off Charring Cross. Good drinks small menu." She finished off her tea. "What do you think?"

"I think that sounds perfect," he said with a smile. He couldn't wait, there was this excitement he hadn't felt in months. The prospect of the first date. Gods, he was glad he'd asked her out.
