"Aarrgh!"
Alec rolled over on his side, blowing out puffs of air through his mouth. He had been lying down on his bed for the better part of the day just trying to figure out if he was having a heart attack or if Jace had suddenly died some sort of painful death, impaled by some sharp rocks to the spleen or something. The pain of his parabatai rune had intensified since he had arrived from a dull thud to now a searing, ripping pain that tipped the scale of just how much Alec could handle. He couldn't even imagine what Jace was going through if this was happening to him. Of course, Alec wasn't going to show just anyone how much pain he was truly in. That wasn't his way at all.
He had done his best to draw some pain reducing runes on him, but they didn't seem to be as effective as they used to be. He had assumed it was because generally any runes that Jace placed on him were more effective than any he placed on himself. But even those tended to work better back in New York or even Idris. Now, they just looked like intricate tattoos with no real purpose other than to turn his body into some sort of walking, talking art piece. He now yearned for Magnus's magic, the one that had healed him after that demon attack what felt like ages ago, before everything had gone to hell in a hand basket.
Knock, knock, knock...
Alec groaned and reluctantly pushed himself up into a sitting position. He had asked the Doctor to come see him as Mr. Bond had suggested, but now he was having second thoughts. The man was about as sane as anyone else Alec had met, which really didn't put him at ease at all, considering who his own motley crew had turned out to be. But at least Alec felt like he could trust him. Why? He couldn't say for sure, but he couldn't sense any malice in the guy, no demon presence on him either. In fact, he hadn't sensed a single demon since he'd gotten here.
"Coming!"
It was getting harder and harder to breathe, as if the rune was squeezing at his lungs, but Alec braced himself before launching himself at the door. He could withstand a bit of pain. Pain was a good teacher, and Alec was in need of a good lesson, so he didn't mind it as much. Just as long as it didn't end up killing him. He didn't want to think about what that would do to Jace, or his sister even. Eventually, Alec reached the door and swung it open, bringing himself up to his full height in a lame attempt to hide any discomfort he may have been feeling. Rule number one of being a Shadowhunter: Never show weakness.
"Good evening, Doctor. Please come inside."
