Rolling her eyes good naturedly, Shannon shut her journal and meandered downstairs to the kitchen. Rolf was around somewhere, likely grading papers or something school related. This time of year had never been very busy for her, work wise, this year was worst of all. She found herself, stupidly, dwelling on Kirley. Every time he'd disappear from her mind, he'd pop up somewhere, an entry or a comment or a mention by Leigh. Logically, she knew she was being ridiculous. They'd only known each other for a short time and hadn't developed a deep enough connection even to go away together, let alone for her to still be upset about what had happened after all this time.
Yet, she was. It wasn't so much Kirley that upset her, but how she'd felt around him. It had been like before the attack, she'd been happier, lighter, and that change had affected Rolf, he'd seemed less weighed down by guilt. She hated that she apparently needed a man to make herself happy and shook her head as she started getting down mugs and setting the water to boil. Maybe it wasn't that she needed a man specifically, but just a person. It wasn't necessarily a weakness to need help with things. Especially considering what she'd been through.
She just needed to get out more. Even if it was just to a concert or a pub, just to be out somewhere, not stuck moping around the house. Everything was made worse by cabin fever.
The kettle whistled and Shannon set to preparing the tea, placing biscuits on a plate and balancing everything on a tray. Winding her way through dogs, she made her way to Rolf's study. She pushed the door open with her hip, her greeting dying in her throat at the sight that greeted her.
Rolf, surrounded by parchment, fast asleep on his desk. She smiled, faintly, and crossed the room, setting the tray on his desk and gently petting his hair. "Rolf," she whispered, unable to keep from ducking slightly and pressing a kiss to his shaggy head. "Wake up, I made tea."
