WHO: Grant Ward & Kara Lynn Palamas
WHAT: Grant Ward tries to prove he's not brainwashed. Or an LMD. Or any number of identity replacing protocols SHIELD has. Why do they have so many?
WHEN: immediately after this
WHERE: Granny's
RATING: TBD
It wasn't unusual for Ward to spend the evening at Granny's, tucked away in a corner booth. As much as he loved the house and the little makeshift family that came with it, there was limited space to think there when things got really busy. More often than not, after a major assignment came in in his classes, he would sequester himself away for a couple of hours just to wrap up his work before heading back home so that he could just relax without having to worry about finding somewhere to concentrate in the chaos and could just enjoy it instead.
Now, though, he was tucked away in the corner booth for an entirely different reason. Eyes on the door, hands folded in front of him despite how fidgety he was, he managed a shaky smile for Granny as she settled a hand on his arm as she passed the booth before heading back behind the counter. Part of him wished he had brought something with him to occupy the time, to fill whatever little space there was before this discussion where he didn't even know where to start. But he also knew that if he had, he'd be tempted to distract himself with it when he was at a lose for words.
And that, was the last thing he needed when he didn't even know what to say.
First off, he knew, he was going to have to convince her that they hadn't done anything to him, that he was still the man that she knew in some way, shape, or form, and that... That was going to be difficult when he had found himself feeling less and less kinship with the man that he'd had to watch slowly devolve on the screen. Even he understood him motivations, what he didn't understand was how he couldn't see the other options. There weren't many, but they were still there. And yet, he kept choosing the worst possible path to go down. This time, though, he'd dragged someone else down with him. And now, he was going to have to clean up his own mess the best that he could.
