[The Backstory] [The Plot] [The Rules] [The Application] [The Character List]

The Backstory

Veritas is somewhat AU for Book 6 and mostly AU for Book 7 - although major aspects of the book have been integrated into the history of the RP.

The RP has been running for three years, however, with post-hogwarts we are beginning completely anew, and all the backstory needed to be caught up can be found below (Links to threads are just for your own interest, they don't need to be read):

The last two years at Hogwarts were somewhat a terror for all students. Harry and Dumbledore embarked on a long, difficult battle to find the keys to Voldemort's immortality: his Horcruxes. The search was slow and time consuming, and all the while Voldemort's forces were getting more and more aggressive. Attacks at random houses, public places and all around the muggle world became increasingly common. At the same time, a group of Deatheater youth The immacule was being created, with Draco Malfoy being placed in a position of leadership within it, against his own will, and moreso a way to force him into failure so Voldemort could get revenge on him for the sins of his father.

The war hit its turning point during The Hogwarts Seige when Voldemort and his deatheaters staged a large scale attack on the school. Dumbledore had done his research in terms of Voldemort's weakness but all the while Voldemort had done his research on the school's weaknesses. Able to disable the wards surrounding the castle, the Deatheaters moved in to cast a final blow. Unfortunately for them, they had vastly underestimated the protective wards, which were woven into the school in multiple layers: Although the outside wards were gone, the central ones remained. As the wards became disabled, the students, having just finished exams for the year, were all taken down in the bowels of the school where they were trapped as the Deatheaters swarmed into the upper floors and tried to figure out how to go about destroying the leftover wards that protected the students.

Inside the dungeons, the entire school were trapped for three months, until finally, with the collaboration of many an ally, both Harry and the headmaster managed to escape to destroy the final horcrux and then take on Voldemort. The battle was long and hard, but in the end it was Harry who came out victorious, albeit battered and somewhat more jaded.

Other things

The following simply includes the basic information a character would/may know about the events that occurred over their sixth and seventh year as well as the four years following that led up to the current day in Veritas.

[Politics]

The last year and a half at Hogwarts had been somewhat of a terror, with Voldemort's Death Eaters attacking whenever they could, and the Ministry of Magic in an uproar after a vote of no confidence threatened to usurp Fudge from leadership. Fudge, in an attempt to win public affection ordered a dementor's kiss for Lucius Malfoy in June of 1997 - instead of being a supportive gesture for the light side, all that did was make the Deatheaters more aggressive.

The vote of no confidence mulled around for months before finally in January of 1998 it became a reality. Fudge was kicked out of office, only to be temporarily replaced by Rufus Scrimgeour.

Following the Seige of Hogwarts, and Rufus' inane ability at dealing with it, he too was kicked out and Acturus Burke and his National Peace Party took over. Burke is the current Minister of Magic.

[Fads and Things]

In Hogwarts, Headmaster Dumbledore had implemented magical journals for all students as a way to calm interhouse tensions. Currently, similar journals have become a huge fad in the wizarding world, as they allow quick contact with close friends and family, an important thing considering the unsure times ahead.

The Weasley Twins, before starting up the WWW after their graduation, had been selling puffskeins and tiny sheep to the students of Hogwarts, the small animals ran wild in the school and were especially popular with the girls.
