Like I know it's a magic thing, but how do we know all of this... magic and Dreams and everything isn't somehow the planet's way of... warning us of something, or defending herself?

Perhaps.

But it stands to reason we could've gotten 'super powers' anywhere else too.

It feels more likely that someone else would be performing a test than the planet itself. Perhaps it's still so we can defend it though.

Extreme measures are rarely taken well by the people who dislike what you stand for. Although protecting the planet shouldn't really have opposition, it's likely someone will. Just for the sake of it if nothing else.
