The petri-dish I work in has finally made me succumb to the various illnesses attached to the sticky hands of small kids. I feel like I might be dying.

So, does anyone have any novel ways to get better quickly? I don't want to be sick over Halloween and these kinds of bugs always take it out of me.

Is this flu or just a bug from being around human incubators?

I tend to pop pain killers near constantly (but safely) and chew ice chips for the inevitable sore throat from that coughing, and sleep as much as humanly possible.

I've got no idea if it's flu or if it's just some kind of mutant virus that's been germinating in tiny human incubators. All I know is I'm feeling rough and my house should be quarantined.

Ooh, ice chips, that's a good idea. Any other hints and tips?

Might need to check at the doctors to see if it's viral or not.

Sinus help. You'll feel like hell warmed up if your sinuses explode with this, better to combat before it happens.

Might give it a few days, see if sleep and chicken soup helps first. I don't want to waste anyone's time.

Ugh, sinuses. I know they're important but they're so, so annoying.

I'm Eleanor, by the way. Thanks for swinging in with suggestions like some kind of white knight.

Probably not a time waste, but I can understand avoiding unnecessary doctor bills.

Really annoying. Especially when your ears, nose and throat all decide to freak out at the same time.

Eddie. I don't think I've ever been called that, but you're welcome.

That too. Things would be a lot easier if we had universal healthcare.

I agree completely, Eddie. My ears are definitely blocked. Everything sounds like it's underwater.

Nice to meet you :)

Wouldn't it just? But god, let's not try and stop insurance companies and big pharma from making money off the sick.

If you have some ibuprofen, that can help reduce the pain and inflammation. I tend to favour hot/cold packs, usually 20 minutes heat, 20 minutes cold to see if it helps soothe. Sucking the ice chips might help too.

You too Eleanor.

Corporations are the worst, Eddie. If it was even remotely feasible to survive as a society where we traded commodities instead of money I'd be in favour of that.

I'd starve, though.

I'm making notes of all these things and will beg my brother to help me out.

Well once upon a time it was, early civilisations managed it, and even some remote, less technology dependent societies do it. Unfortunately, capitalism really does rule America.

I'm sure you could barter something for food. Like childminding in exchange for groceries.

Hopefully you'll be right as rain in no time then. Chicken broth and chocolate are good too.

Capitalism rules most of the world, which sucks.

Oh, okay that's a good idea. I could work with that if civilisation ever collapsed.

I hope so, thanks for the advice, Eddie.
