The perception of options is necessary for a society, I suppose. If you feel you have a choice, even if the choice has been clearly made for you in advance, you can be more confident that you are doing what you are supposed to do.
Personally, I don't like coffee, but when I do go out for a London Fog, I try to go to one of those more family-run businesses. Sure, they're pricier -- worth it though.
