The word 'impossible' really needs to be redefined. I'm starting to get bored with achieving what people deem it.

The appalling lack of creativity in people is certainly to be pitied and aggravated to something more interesting.

Precisely that. I haven't heard of much originality lately, have you?

It's been rather thin, that I won't deny. And what is heralded as cutting-edge originality tends to be lesser class or taste.

There is a sparse handful of humans that I would consider original, or at least inventive. But they're far and few between.

Ah, wait, you're the one with the bog. I believe we've spoken before. I think I may have suggested getting a bigger bog. But I was a fair amount more... quick to react.

It does make tricking them easier. If they cannot 'hack' the cheats, they get all surly.

I do remember that discussion, but thought otherwise. I did not wish for my whole kingdom to smell during the hot seasons. If we had hot seasons.

I'll be enjoying getting back into the tricking game. Being angry so long cramped my style.

Yes, that would have been rather awful. Then again, wouldn't it be up to you whether or not you had hot seasons in the Kingdom, Jareth?

Taunting humans is such a rewarding hobby, and never the same twice, they are so fun when ruffled. Ever tempted to rewrite some of the endings of the goods you sell to spite the buyer.

If my subjects bathed more often than a comet's visit, I would consider it.

By all means, do that for some, however, we don't sell much in the way of fiction. Well. Some of it is labeled non-fiction, but I won't vouch for its accuracy.

You should come by, either way. I'm doing some fairly easy sleight of hand to keep myself busy. Crystal balls into snakes, and the like.

The non-fiction, especially the history, is some of their best writing. Entertaining reading, at the least.

Heh, parlour tricks sound fun for a break. Not cheating by really changing them into snakes makes it a challenge.

Oh, is it a challenge for you? When I say sleight of hand, you should know I'm fibbing.

I'll be here 'til after dusk, come by at any time.

Everything's impossible to somebody. Problem is nobody can agree what's actually impossible.

Somethin' like. I always figured 'impossible' was the same as reality, it's just a collective hunch.

Reality is in perception, and perception is due to the world around the one perceiving. All that you can truly prove is what isn't.

Exactly, and sometimes even that isn't so easy.

Well, it's a little easier if you don't take psychedelics.

Well that's true, it's also easier if you don't go wandering around in other people's subconsciouses for fun and/or profit.

Only briefly. And I shouldn't say I'm bored; I'm simply thinking "Now what?" I hope Marietta can stand me for a fortnight.

Two weeks should be enough time for you to find new wonders and interests. And I'm sure she will, although I'm not going to give you a definite on that, as I know you have this profound ability to suddenly become absorbed in everything but the world around you.

I'll have you know that in the 1820s I spent two years suffering through naturalist drivel in the Papal States in order to get close enough to use Jonathan Strange's former archives. Two years of allergies and a buxom young Neapolitan lady who didn't seem to grasp the fact I was not on the marriage market.

It simply proves my point. And also that you're not half as blind to a lady's assets as you pretend.

I've never been blind to ladies' assets. It's simply not proper to discuss them at length. I can appreciate a lovely woman. And what proves your point?

That you spend far too long buried in dusty tomes instead of going out and enjoying the world.

At least I won't be prone to running into things near as much as I once was.
