Everybody being a different age than they were yesterday kind of reminds me of being home. Ma used to do that just for fun. She probably still does, kind of her MO.

Anyway, if anybody needs help adjusting, settling in or anything, give me a poke. Can't say as I'll be any help with figuring out the reason why, but I'm good for talking at.

Funny, the first thing I thought when I woke up this morning was 'You know, her being crazy makes a lot more sense, now'.

I had been warned this place was indiscriminately crazy. I guess I just didn't believe it.

Ma ain't crazy, she's just, y'know, ma.

I'm kind of surprised I didn't get caught up in this... whatever's going on.

No, I'm sorry, your Ma's crazy. Granted, most of us are, and it's not a bad thing. It just is- my only thought was I was crazy enough by myself, I didn't need hormone problems on top of it. Apparently I was wrong.

And I'm a little surprised I did. So maybe it just goes by the opposite of expectation. Or maybe you're a late bloomer.

Yeah, okay, probably the purple cow that gave it away, huh? Or that damn green duck that followed her around forever and a day. Swore it thought it was a guard dog.

Heh, late bloomer, that'd be a first.

I had bruises from that thing's beak for years, I'll have you know. But yeah, something like that.

Sort of like hopping a large tornado into an alternate universe?

We always figured the best way to deal with it was to treat it like a dog. It'd even fetch sticks. We always asked her why she didn't just make a dog if that's what she wanted, and she always said she could never get the tails right.

This from a woman who figured out how to make tropical fish out of cornmeal without having them fall apart in the water before the magic worked.

Something like that, yeah.

Hey, fish are easy. Less complex than dogs. And really, the tail does make the canine. The cornmeal trick was one of her better ones, though.

Just be careful what you wish for, or you might find yourself the butt of the cosmic joke, anyway.

Suppose that's fair. Seem to recall she made a dragon once too, just a little one.

I'll keep that in mind.

Raven told me you had arrived in this world of wonders, and wouldn't you know I was just going to go looking for you, and here you are.

Family trait, that is. Showing up right on time. Or closest thing to a family trait I've got, anyway.

We'd all be in trouble if your father decided not to show up on time, at any rate.

How are you, Ahiga?

Well that's true.

And I'm doing well enough, got dropped into the life of a state park ranger, which you won't hear me complain about.

Park Ranger, huh? Well, good on you.

I was dropped into the life of a sheep farmer, though I've chosen not to...partake, if you will.

It's something I'm good at, I figure, and it's Goose Lake. I like Goose Lake.

And it's the off-season, so basically I just have week-long shifts of making sure nobody's here.

Surely you wouldn't turn me away, were I to drop in.

Well of course not, you're family.

I'm not there this week though, someone else's turn.

Good to know.

Where are you this week, young one?

Willow Ranch, Modoc County, California.

Just down one side of Goose Lake, really, 'bout a half hour from the park.
