Who: Wardens & companions leaving Amaranthine for Redcliffe.
When: Early evening, 16 Molioris
Where: Campsite just off of the North Road
What: Group one stops to rest before continuing to Redcliffe.
The last few days had been terrible. The Joining ceremony had been an emotional wrecking ball for everyone involved, and while he didn't want to say he was more affected than anyone else, he still felt like shit having watched his cousin die without being able to do anything about it. He woke from his dreaming midway through the ceremony next to Bethen, and just sat there quietly, holding his still pained head in his hands as he watched the rest of the recruits pass or fail. Afterward, he wanted to do nothing more than sleep, but instead he sat around looking miserable. Talfryn watched his charge curiously for a while before trying to find out what exactly had happened. He was pissed that he'd somehow gotten sick, and wanted to know why Brannan was unaccounted for. Noa looked just as miserable as her master did, and couldn't be bothered to try to cheer him up. It was all rather pathetic, and it was keeping him from writing back to his mother. Surely she already knew he'd reached Amaranthine - most of his knights had returned to Gwaren when they reached their destination - but there were personal things he needed to address. It would have to wait, though. By the fourteenth of the month, they had been briefed on their upcoming missions, and it gave him something else to think about. Getting out of Amaranthine, or at least the idea of it, made him feel better. He would be putting distance between himself and a bad experience that was going to build the itinerary of the rest of his life. Getting sent off to Redcliffe was even better, though he would have preferred to have been sent on the mission to the Brecilian for its proximity to Gwaren, but he understood well, now, that his wants were much less than the needs of Ferelden. There was serious trouble headed for the arling, and as much as he would have enjoyed visiting with Teagan, he knew there were more pressing matters at hand, and the needed to take care of that first. From Amaranthine, two groups set out. One smaller group began their trek south into the Brecilian. The larger group was made of two smaller groups - those Coan would be traveling to Redcliffe with, and another going south toward Lothering. They traveled as one big group until they reached the Hafter river, which was only an hour or so out of Amaranthine. After that, the group traveling to Redcliffe stayed on the North Road, and when it looked like they'd used up all the daylight they could, they found an appropriate spot to set up camp just off of the road. For most of the trip, Coan had been quiet and introspective. He spoke mostly to Talfryn, and to others when he was spoken to - nothing more, nothing less. Little changed as the camp was set up. He helped Talfryn assemble their tent, and others who'd asked for assistance. When those who'd volunteered - including Talfryn - left to hunt for dinner, Coan sat himself down by the fire, intending to finally start his letter to his mother. With so much to tell her, he wasn't sure where to start, and he was reluctant to recall the negative things he'd tried to bury. Noa coming to settle beside him, Coan looked off to the people around him, watching everyone busy themselves around the campsite. |
