Walking the Plank wants YOU!
Hello, everyone!

This was a spectacular selection of fics, and a banner year for the number of entries! Thanks to everyone who participated. This is a great fandom.

As you all know, [info]djin7 & [info]reddwarfer  are both mods at Walking the Plank.  [info]aliciamasters (that's me!) is lucky enough to be the headmistress.  Therefore, we would be honored and overjoyed if you decided to host your fic at Walking the Plank, now that the fest is over.

We have created TWO TEAM open series under djin7's name, one for Team Dragon and one for Team Phoenix.

Due to the tremendous team spirit, we have also added two other series: 2008 Comment Porn, under RaeWhit, and 2008 Opening & Closing Ceremonies, which can include all the wonderful extras posted on the comm.

If you've never hosted at Walking the Plank, it is a moderated community of Snarry fanfiction and fanart.

Here's where you sign up for an account.  You'll love it:  I promise!

These are the submission guidelines.  In addition, we have walkthroughs created to help you figure out how to post.

Once it's up, reply to this post, and I will take it through the submissions process and add it to the series, so that everyone who followed the Snarry Games can find your teammates' stories together. All your entry needs to say is I'm ready!  (It can say more if you want, though.) If you are struggling, or need help getting your entry up on the site, let me know.  We'll work something out.  My e-mail is aliciamastersATgmailDOTcom.

Here are a few FAQs about an Open Series.

Will adding my story to the series mean it will look like DJ created it?
Absolutely not.  An open series is one where many creators can contribute.  It will show up under your creator name, and your creator profile.  It will also show up under the series, but it will still list you as the creator.

What if I choose to take the story off Walking the Plank?
The fic will automatically delete from the series if you remove it from the archive.  You don't need to worry.

What if I have questions, or I'm confused about the process?

You can e-mail me, reply to this post, or e-mail wtp.moderators@gmail.com.  I want to make this fun and easy for you!  WTP is very proud to be loosely affiliated with such a great event.

What if the moderators at Walking the Plank do not approve my story?

Should such a thing happen, it would include corrections within the letter that will probably fix the problem.  You have all helped each other with very thorough betas.  THE MOST COMMON REJECTION IS BECAUSE THE WARNINGS ARE NOT COMPLETE.  It is the most likely reason you would have anything other than an acceptance.  If you check your warnings, and preview the submission to make sure you are happy with it, chances are extremely slim there will be anything to worry about.  Besides:  we will review your submission up to three times.  Don't worry!

Am I forced to post my story on Walking the Plank?

Not at all.  However, I'm not above begging.  Or bribes.  Or stalking.  I think it might be easier to comply.  Besides, won't it be nice to be housed with your teammates in some fashion?

What makes Walking the Plank special?
Other than its lovely mods?  We believe strongly that all submissions are the creator's, and that we hold them in trust.  To avoid a meltdown like Detention, we have many moderators, and we have a very open policy.  That leads to a feel of cooperation unlike any that I've experienced until now, and which you saw reflected in the wonderful people here at Snarry Games.  We maintain Walking the Plank in trust for all the fen, and we have volunteers from many countries.  You can read all about Walking the Plank here.

Are you fascinated by Walking the Plank? We are always looking for volunteers, both as mods and technical support. Here are the volunteering guidelines. I was very lucky to be a mod on this contest, and I'm amazed at the talent in our fandom!  Meanwhile, I hope you will consider WTP a home for your art.If you agreed to archiving, but you don't have time to upload, I will contact you to arrange a mod upload. I'd love to have a complete set of Champions. (Hint, hint, Earlier Champions! We still have a few stories & artwork missing!)   REMEMBER:  if something is stopping you, please feel free to contact me.  Maybe we can work it out.

Special Note: the WTP mods are having a Snarry Games fic & art AMNESTY for July. We will be offering to help upload fic and art by posting on the original post, and will also accept requests on this post. If you will have the time to do it yourself, we would appreciate your help in doing so, but if you have never posted your art or fic, and don't think you will without our help, let us do it for you. We want to have all the 2006, 2007 and 2008 series completed by the end of August, if the champions are willing. After LJ strikethrough 2007, we want to ensure that work this good always has a home, and we want a searchable, useable team listing for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you for letting me be a part of this experience!  I hope I see you at Walking the Plank soon!

Okay, uploaded Stillife. Cleaned up the typos and tightened a wee bit. Should be good now.

Validated and added to the series. Can I tell you again how much I LOVE this story? I've read it at least three times.

Since I've never done this before - archived, I mean - I'm wondering if I should break my fic up into more manageable blocks, i.e. chapters. I wrote it as a one-shot, but it's so feckin' long. So, question: is length a problem for archival purposes?

I haven't managed to buckle down and face the tidying-up part yet, but I guess I should make time for that, huh? It's not that I'm lazy or anything (mm-hmm, right), it's just that there's a certain amount of tooth-grinding involved.

We haven't had anyone yet archive a story and reach a maximum word length, so in theory, I'd say it would be fine to do as a one-shot. However, I would say that your story is so LONG, people can rarely read it in one sitting, so breaking it up into parts would make some sense. Readers would have an easier time remembering & bookmarking where they left off. Of course, that's just my opinion. :)

I'm so happy you are considering archiving with us first. We are kind to virgins of all kinds at WTP. ;) Definitely check out the screenshots. The first time I uploaded, I left it open in a window, and worked in the other one. It really helped.

I managed to submit the story - although I'm not sure it's in the series - I'd really appreciate it if you could check it.

OK.... I've added my fic but it has automatically attached itself to 'Snarry Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies' and I have no idea why, or how to change it to the right series. *sobs* I ALWAYS have awful trouble loading onto WTP, I wish I knew why. I didn't add it any series, I don't even know how to do that, so I have no idea why it did this. Sorry!

My fic is really, really long. It's divided into two parts, and within the parts are several more divisions by scene/chapters.

Should I divide it just into the two parts, or would it be better to do the individual scenes?

Uploaded, I hope--all sixteen chapters. Sorry it took so long, but you wouldn't believe the errors I found. *hangs head in shame* Don't know about the series thing, but if I read it right, you're going to take care of that, right? Let me know if anything needs a new upload. You're the best!

I added Imaginis, but there are a couple of problems.

I missed the Complete ticky box the first time around and can't figure out how to change that. There's no "Save Changes" button on the edit page. Do I click "Add Story" again?

Also, it got added to the wrong series for the Snarry Games.

When this is fixed, I'd like to add my other SS/HP stories to the archive.

Hey, dear Mod Squad!

I finally uploaded my story for this year's Snarry Games, "Ghost Story", to WTP. My user name at WTP is "Becca". I have no idea how to add it to the "Team Dragon" open series, so if you could help me with that, that'd be great! :-D

Thanks again for everything - and if I made a mistake uploading etc., just let me know!

I have joined WTP and have attempted to post "The Oiran" to the site. A bit confusing - but then I am not particularily computer-literate. I couldn't get the Series to say anything but "Opening and Closing Ceremonies" which this is not - it is a Team Phoenix entry. How do I fix that?

I am hopeful that when the validation folks look at it they determine I didn't do too bad of a job of it. I threw in every warning I could think of - and will probably scare off even more readers - but don't want to accidently get anyone in trouble with censorship laws.
