Annette, I really enjoyed betaing this story, and it's a joy to re-read in its final form.
A very original idea, a Gothic Romance Snarry, and beautifully executed by you. The genre is made for you, love.
Well done! (even if you are on that team, hehe).

Oh, so there really was a ghost. That last bit really was rather spooky. Good job! I honestly didn't suspect a thing!

It was sweet. I was happy for Harry and Severus at the end. :)

Thank you.

What a wonderful Gothic tale! I adored whole story, the way that Severus fell in love, the way that Harry was so sweet and yet so strong and their wonderful escape. I also loved the way that you included canon characters and wove a story around them. I adored Neville's role too. Masterly story telling.

*hugs*

OMG! Shades of Georgette Heyer, Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte!

YES!!!!

You got everyone in! (SS and Young William...in the stable? Oh, my!)

De Sade? One of the Potter ancestors was rather wicked, n'est-ce pas?

Loved how the atmosphere and the language fit the Gothicness of the story. And the ending was a real kicker!

I think this was really a terrific piece! The Gothic atmosphere kept it from getting too melodramatic, and lent itself to the pacing and the relationship. With menace around every corner, it's no surprise that they were clinging to one another.

It really worked well, from start to finish. I loved the Jane Eyre imagery, and the ending was spot-on. Your Harry was innocent and vulnerable, but you gave him an inner strength that kept him from being a victim with Snape; difficult to do in chan. I admire your deftness!

I enjoyed this a lot. The setting, the characters and the plot worked together effortlessly and I found myself immersed in your story right from the catchy first paragraph to the startling last line. (Like Severus, I couldn’t help wondering why William wasn’t dismissed. *g*).

The mystery with the books was a lovely way to introduce the ”ghost” and I loved Severus and Harry’s nocturnal meetings. They were heartbreaking and sweet and had a delicate touch of humour.

After their dramatic escape, I was relieved to learn that the Grangers were such decent people. Doctor Pomfrey was great too, telling Harry about the facts of life. Also, it was nice to see how Harry and Severus talked about their relationship. I loved this:

"It's not what I want that counts, Harry. Is this what you want?"
"Then yes, I want you to live with me," said Harry firmly. Harry fluttered his eyelashes as he'd seen Katie do to one of the footmen. "I want you, Severus."
Severus choked on his chocolate and set the cup down, coughing and spluttering. "Harry, do you even know what you're asking for?"

Well done...you definitely achieved that Gothic feel. Dursley was so evil (shudders), and I loved the way you incorporated the additional characters. So heartwrenching, Severus' almost instant love for Harry, but his fears of leading him into further danger. Of course, he rescues Harry in the end. I liked the Neville tidbit at the end, but felt a little confused. Wasn't Neville around in the earlier part of the story? Or was Snape (and Harry) seeing the actual ghost? Anyway, great read!

As always I adore your portrayals of Severus and Harry. Liked how you wove in all the other characters, done very well. And the twist at the end, not expected at all, very clever. A brilliant fic that was a joy to read.

What a delightful homage to the gothic romance genre you have created... definite shades of "Jane Eyre" (my all-time favorite novel). Loved the use of cannon characters, some in most unexpected roles, the beautifully detailed atmosphere...

And let's not forget that there actually WAS a ghost of Dursley Hall...just not the ghost we expected! I just love a good twist!

Well done, fellow Phoenix!

"You'll be the death of me,"
I believe that line from Severus is a must in a Snarry ;o)
Amazing how you fit all the characters in a complete different Reality/Time. And that twist at the end O_o once more an remarkable story.

How, Why?? My opinion...It's definitely time for a sequel! Very awesome work! And Good Luck to your team!
