I learned something about LJ cuts...

...and it could be useful for you, too. Duh if it is old news, but for me it was a problem until now.

Did you notice, when you looked from LJ at our snapedom feed posts, that the lj cuts didn't work? I apologize for spamming you with all these banners yesterday!

More under the cut. ;)

This morning I noticed, while checking the LJ flist, that [info]geri_chan's cut did work. So what did she do right and I did wrong? I checked the source, and apparently she wrote her post in rich text, and these cuts seem to work in the feed.

So I tried the code, which is <div class="ljcut">, and hooray, it worked. So please, for longer posts, either use rich text with cuts, or use this code with the div class

It makes it easier for our LJ friends to look at their lists, and we don't need to pull our hair out where to hide the images so they won't spam.

I'll include this in the faq, please point people there if they have problems or questions with it. As you undoubtedly know, I cannot edit your posts (which is as it should be), so I can't help with corrections.
  • Thanks for posting this. I get snapedom on the feed and it has been an issue only when the NSFW items have been posted.

But don't sweat it about the banners, which were excellent btw.
  • You mean, <div class="ljcut"> one-for-one replaces the <lj-cut> tag we've been used to?
    • If you know that a community is syndicated and want to do the rss readers a favour: yes. We have quite a few subscribers for snapedom.
  • Oh, excellent. This works! Thank you.
  • Viewing the source for this page, it also appears that we can still customize the cut text, adding text="custom text for those who want something other than Read More to appear on the cut" after the div class="ljcut" within the tag. FYI.
    • Good, thanks! I'll leave the more sophisticated details to you, I'm usually too lazy for that. But the basic coce isn't much longer than the cut, so I think it's not too much to ask.
  • Heh heh, nice to know I did something right, albeit unintentionally! ^_^ I always use the rich text shortcuts because I have trouble remembering all the various coding. But it's nice to know what to do in case I have to do it manually for some reason.
    • Yes, and a good thing too that you did it. I had a moment of 'what does she have that I don't', LOL.
