Snarry-a-Thon11: ART: Rose, Wormwood, Gall, Rue
Title: Rose, Wormwood, Gall, Rue
Artist: ysope
Rating: G
Media: Pencil colored in Photoshop
Warning(s): none
Prompt: #96: Catholic AU: Young Father Harry, the war hero, finds himself increasingly attracted to the embittered janitor/groundskeeper, Snape.
Summary: Young Father Harry is tormented by an internal conflict between his reverence for his priestly vows and the feelings he develops for the embittered Parish groundskeeper, Severus Snape.
A/N: Severus is definitely an overqualified groundskeeper. I think he probably is a fallen ex-professor with a deep knowledge of botany.

Oh, this is beautiful beyond beautiful, like something out of a storybook. Such a sad, tender tone in the air...I particularly like Harry's grip at the window, like he needs to physically ground himself so he doesn't give in to his urge to go to Severus, who looks so beat down and weary of life. I hope there's some happiness in store for the both of them.

Lovely. I adore how tortured you made Harry look, and how lost Severus looks. Beautifully done, babe.

The soft, soothing colors mixed with the sharp & soft focus are so elegant & enchanting I can't look away! The detail & touches of color on the outside of the Rectory, including the lush foliage (no doubt, expertly) tended by Severus, is exquisite. The expression of longing on Harry's face as he stares at Severus, coupled with the gloomy feeling inside the Rectory, perfectly illustrates Harry's desire need to be with him. Extremely well done! ❤

This is extraordinary. I just adore everything about it. The AU scenario, the anguished expression on Harry's face, Severus who seems tired or broken. The artwork itself looks to be taken straight from a picture book. I really hope someone writes a fic for this. It's marvelous. Well done.

This is colored pencil, one of my favorite mediums, so right off the bat I have so much love. But there is so MUCH emotion here I am blown away. The longing on Harry's face as he peers out that window at Snape! And poor Snape, stooped over that rake...just so weary and bleak - so opposite of the beautiful grounds he has cultivated (which you've filled with such beautiful detail). I adore all the rich details on the buildings; I love artwork that just sucks you in and keeps you looking and this just DOES. Bravo!

Oh my goodness. I don't know how, but you've established such a melancholy mood here that it makes me want to weep for their lost opportunities.
I imagine it's the mutes colors, the looks on their faces, Severus' posture... This somehow becomes a beautiful, if sad, whole.
As Emynn said, Harry's tight grip on the column makes it seem as if he's trying SO HARD not to go and touch Severus, and Severus' stooped posture speaks volumes.
Really well done. *sniffs*

Wow. The way Severus is holding himself, his expression... it is so sad! Very well done. I really liked that you used coloured pencils.

I love the soft, overcast feeling to this. It suits the mood of the subjects. I love their positioning, Harry's hand on the window, and the mirror on the back wall. It's all gorgeous. They seem so alone and sad, that you make me wish they would break some rules and find happiness.
I wonder about the symbolism of the plants you used as the title. Very intriguing.

This is really beautiful and such a nice use of PS coloring. Had I not read what you used I would have thought it was just colored pencil. The background is lovely as is the color palette. Excellent!

Wow, this is fantastic -- I could see this acting as inspiration for multiple fics, the way you've conveyed so much history and longing and grimness (with a hint of hope) in your image. Well done!

Just gorgeous. I love colored pencil and your technique is fabulous. It's so lush and sadly loging as well. The look on Harry's face and exhaustion on Severus. I want them to find each other. The details are stunning. I'm just blown away!

Such a sad look on both of them, and the church grounds fitting in to the hopeless, drear feeling of this piece.

This is gorgeous AU. I love the fact he's gardening, wielding a tool (not that one) and his expression is fantastic. Harry's gaze is so full of longing. Just lovely.

I adore the contrast and tension between the lush gardens and the austerity of the buildings and life Harry has chosen.

There is a grief that seems to have permeated everything, and you want to scream at Harry to "go after Severus!"
