Author: Jen, aka jvalread, aka snarrylover
Pairing: Snarry
Rating: PG – Torina safe
Word count: 5,801
Warnings: None, unless you count the fact there are no warnings as a warning.
Through book 7, although no epilogue and licence was taken with who did or didn’t die.
Prompt: 2. Severus looked back over his shoulder to see the path of his life stretched behind him. But even though it was clear, how had it led him here?
AN: Well I started with this prompt; however it took a left turn at Albuquerque and ended up nowhere near the original prompt. Thanks to Clare for the name of the store and fidelius for her encouragement or I most likely wouldn’t have written this. Thank you to Lillibet for the beta. I take full responsibility for any errors you may still find.
Summary: For Severus*sighs* celebration of Severus’ 50th Birthday. Severus has an opportunity to go back home. What does he find when he gets there?
He looked down at the parchment that he had just received by way of carrier pigeon. Even after not seeing it for more than ten year, the Gringott’s Seal imprinted into the sealing wax was unmistakable.
Curiosity getting the better of him, he took one long, potion stained finger and carefully pried the wax up so he could open the letter.
Dear Master Peters,
I am writing to extend an offer from one of our clients here in London, Part N' Parcel: Quality Potions Ingredients. They specialize in the high quality and difficult to obtain ingredients. They have been advised to solicit the opinion of the world’s foremost Potions Masters.
As the Premier Potions Master in the United States, my clients are hopeful that you will be able to attend a conference that they will be hosting January 8-10th. This will allow you the opportunity to inspect the quality of their ingredients in the hopes that you would wish to test and use them yourself.
Please be assured that all expenses will be paid for by my clients, and you will be housed in a 4 star hotel (Muggle if that will not be an issue). You will also be welcome to attend any of the other festivities that occur every year at that time.
If you are interested, please R.S.V.P by December 15th, and designate if you would prefer an international portkey or a First Class ticket on British Airways.
May your gold flow freely,
Boomblox
Gringott’s Small Business Liaison
PS-If you would like for my clients to attempt to find a rare ingredient for you as a show of their abilities, please include the name of the ingredient with your R.S.V.P.
Evan Bassious Peters quietly pondered the letter in his hand. Rare ingredients...hmm...well I am out of Basilisk Venom. Although the event was less than two months away, he rather thought that he would go.
He did feel a pang of concern though; he hadn’t been back to the United Kingdom since he finally recovered. Once he was able to talk again, he had grabbed the hidden case in his bedroom, shaken off the last vestiges of his previous life and prepared to start again. He knew that he was accused of being paranoid, but after the Dark Lord disappeared in 1981, he had begun creating his new persona. The first thing he had done was establish his name and credentials as a Potions Master. He had used this name to patent many new or improved potions throughout his tenure as a teacher and had amassed quite a nest egg. On December 31, 1998 Severus Tobias Snape stepped out the front door of his home on Spinners End, disabled the wards that hid it from all others, disapparated, and when he arrived at the Wizarding Entrance of Heathrow Airport, Evan Bassious Peters was finally more than a name on paper.
Out of character for the taciturn man, he made a snap decision to accept the offer. He sent off his R.S.V.P before he could change his mind. He knew that Mara Marcellus, his long time assistant, could handle the store and any potions that were needed. She had apprenticed to him for three years as she completed her mastery and returned to help him run the store. She actually made most of the standard potions that they sold. At almost 50 years of age, Evan decided that he was old enough and had lived through enough, that he could pick and choose which commission he took on, and spent the majority of his time researching his lifelong goal of curing lycanthropy.
To make things interesting, he said he was looking for an ounce of venom from a Magical Emerald Boa, diluted with 7 drops of blood from an Antipodean Opaleye. Further, he explained that if he was able to receive the venom, he would guarantee that he would use their ingredients when he brewed his next batch of Wolfsbane.
