A/N: Many thanks to my darling Trufflesmom, thanks for betaing, darling. What would Truffle and I do without you? Sorry whitecotton, I tried writing these drabbles without contractions, , but it didn’t quite look right, so I put ‘em back. Finally, here they are, three drabbles, with four contractions and no hyphenations whatsoever.

Have just read all of the anniversary drabbles, and commented on every single one! Loved them, peeps.

Severus

Severus hated anniversaries: he counted them, tragedy by tragedy, in his mind.

His mother died when he was fifteen; that had been at Christmas.

His father died at Easter beneath the wand of his fellow Death Eaters, ‘doing Severus a favour by removing his Muggle past’; at the behest of the Dark Lord, of course.

Lily died at Halloween.

Dumbledore was kinder; his death wasn’t linked to any festival. Severus could grieve for him at any time he wished.

But he’s sick of grieving, sick of sorrow.

He just wants to move on and forget everything that has gone before.


Harry


Harry’s always disliked anniversaries; they punctuate his life with so much loss.

Other people in Harry’s life celebrate birthdays, but Harry’s never really got in the way of them. He never saw the point really.

Oh, there was a while, a short while, when he tried on Christmas, to see if such happiness was for him, but now it just brings memories of Sirius and the paternal relationship that never was.

The spring makes him think of the final battle… of Remus and of Tonks and of Fred.

Summer reminds him of Cedric, whom hardly anyone remembers anymore.

Anniversaries hurt.



The First Time


It’s the first time for both of them.

Their first proper anniversary. In fact, everything else they’ve shared this year has been a first: their first Christmas; Severus’ first birthday when he was truly loved; Harry’s first party, that he could remember anyway; the first year that nobody died.

Tomorrow will be a whole year since they kissed for the first time, since the first time they made love. They’re an unlikely couple, but they’ve been together for twelve months now.

Severus sighs and kisses the very tip of Harry’s nose.

Maybe sometimes, just sometimes, anniversaries can be good?
