Context is for the WEAK
Because I don't think we've had a context-is-for-the-weak post here yet:

Ceiling Robin is watching you masturbate!

So I guess riddler could successfully trap Batman in a deathtrap where the only way out was a door

Does Bats know? Does Babs? I don't think they'd be impressed by Tim pulling a Roy. Oh man, imagine the conversation between Bruce and Ollie.

LMAO! No, it was Cass and Bruce who got accidentally-on-purpose high off it...and they had a nearly-blowing-up-a-bridge-in-the-process fight and jumped into a river, where they hugged and talked it out a bit in a slightly skeevy manner.

Let's just say there is a LOT of subtext in canon, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I think I've seen too much STUPID squicky stuff, not just squicky.

('Let's do it!' 'But (I'm/you're) (your/my) (parent/kid/sibling)!' 'Yes?' 'Nothing, let's get naked.' 'It's about time!')

Aaaand this would be why I stay the hell away from incest pairings. I mean, yes there are some squicks that just can't be watered down, but good writing goes along way.

I actually seek it out sometimes, just because it can be so...bizarre.

(I exaggerate, somewhat in my description above...a lot of the stuff I've run across completely skips the 'but we're related!' part. >_>)

Not gonna lie, I love badfic. I used to run a badfic sporking comm, even. I'm particularly fond of badly written dubcon and BDSM. Hilarity.

That's what really gets me, sometimes...a lot of this stuff...it's actually not badly done (as far as porn goes)...aside from the 'jeeze, you're related, doesn't that bother you the slightest bit?'

I those fics come about because some people write to satisfy a kink. They aren't necessarily interested in an audience that doesn't share that kink, and they most definitely aren't interested in interrogating their kink.

Hence the strangely unproblematic incest.

Sometimes I feel like it's *not* about a kink and that's the problem. Because I like incest pairings in fandoms where there's a lot of Gothic trappings in the pairing--or even if I don't like the pairing I can see how it comes out of the show.

What I find creepy are are incest fics about more healthy families--those are the ones I've read where it seemed like they didn't even remember where they were related and I got the feeling the author just wanted to pair those two characters and didn't have a thing for incest. If it's part of the kink it should...you know...read as a kink!

On the one hand, I can understand that...

On th'other...

I'm just not entirely sure what the POINT is, if the relation isn't being treated like a big deal.

Not having an incest kink, I can't really say how someone who does have one would respond, but...like [info]sistermagpie said, it...kind of seems like...NOT catering to the kink, sometimes.

But if it were for one of my odd, potentially squick-worthy kinks, I'd find the lack of emphasis the aspects that define the kink, and might squick those that don't have it (or even those that do) to be...boring at best, an unfun cop-out at worst.

Don't you know there's smut and/or Slash about EVERYTHING? I squelched when I ran across some Robin/Beast Boy stuff not too long ago as that's a pairing I just don't see, but, well...people's minds wander.

But then, that's what we do here at S_D, isn't it? ;->

You know, I've been in the fic part of fandom for over ten years. I've seen it all. Somehow I've maintained my squickability. Of course, there's little that does squick me. Certain iterations of parent/child eroticism just... jesusgodno.

Oh, my squickability is quite high. And I agree, incest/kiddie porn is WAY high on the list. I saw a beautifully drawn comic over on Rule34 not too long ago that literally made me nauseous; it was 10-year old Bruce Wayne being "comforted" by his mother. *Shivers at the memory*

But I've been in the fic part of fandom for going on 15 years and seen just about every pairing imaginable. I'm heavy into Star Wars fandom, and I STILL see a Luke/Leia pairing now and again. I guess my point is that if the characters have genetalia, somebody's going to write about them having sex. I go to a con every year that basically a fic con, (they actually still put out paper zines) and run through the new stuff and go "no, no, ick, ew, what were they thinking, no..." (somehow I still wind up buying like $200 worth of zines every year though...)

...

How bad is it that the fact that Thomas and Martha were killed when Bruce was 6 prevents me from processing this far enough to GET to the squick?

Geez, same here, only with "8 years old." It's just... "Wait, is she a ghost?" "She's not even a proper character!" And what a safe, safe wall of WTF it is.

LOL! Geekiness rears it's head! Been there.

To be fair, he very well could have only been 8. The part I actually read didn't actually give his age; he was just obviously a young boy. Once Martha Wayne started to take her nightgown off, I stopped reading the text and just glanced at the rest of the art. I should have known better...it was at Rule34.
