I don't mind comics that go the grim n' gritty. I do however disapprove when they forget that super heroes are all about ideals and achieving the impossible. They are, at their most core value, all about doing what is unrealistic - saving every life, redeeming the villain, making the world a better place. They don't often succeed. Hell, they rarely should. But the drama should come from the struggle between the ideals and the reality, not reality and uberdarkdrama.
