The all-new Ray Palmer
Three pages from this week's Justice League: Cry For Justice #1.

In an early interview James Robinson did for this book, he said: "I defy you to tell me what Ray Palmer’s personality is? There has never been a personality. So that’s one of things I am going to do with him as well, is give him a personality." (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?id=16532&page=article)

Well, what do people think? So far, is he succeeding?

Seriously? Heroes who torture? Is this DC's new thing?

Umm.. WTF? Has Ray been smoking the same shit that drove Jean batshitcrazy? Because there's no way in Hell he'd threaten someone with the same fate his nutty girl used to 'scare' and kill one of his best friends.

Robinson sounds terribly self-righteous in that interview.

I, also, don't like this Atom.

Ray Palmer does have a personality. It's not this.

"Yeah...JUSTICE!"
[info]jlroberson
2009-07-02 09:13 am UTC (link)
And the personality is Jack Bauer!

Robinson is a writer long since totally "pitch"-perfect, if you know what I mean. So yes, "personality" does mean "grimdark."

You know what? Ray did have a personality. Jan Strnad and Frank Miller in particular got it. (That was one of the few delights of DK2) It's kind of like a more down to earth Reed Richards, one who likes to teach more than cloister, and get laid more than once in a while. (whereas with Reed I imagine sex as something he just doesn't mind, that's all, but not a personal priority)But has-been Robinson killed it, with prep work by Brad Meltzer.

But I've had no respect for that tool ever since he made LOEG into another Howard the Duck: I always have to say, "I don't mean that bad movie" or "the comic's very different from the movie" and sound like a tool. God damn you, James Robinson and your derivative hackery.

Oh look, it's the Grimdark League featuring Bland Lantern, Dr. Has-Been, Supertorso and Captain Nobody Cares (his magic word is "whatever").
It's kind of hard to see all this irrelevant F-List characters strugling (and failing) to be interesting by pretending to be OMG sooo edgy and not to laugh.

ok, yes, Congorilla is pretty awesome, but if this is any indication of how the serious goes, i dread the moment he bites off the face of some Z-List villain.

So the next time someone asks why Batman had all those plans, and why did he need to be paranoid because his friends would never ever do something like this... remember this. Apparently they were all just waiting for him to die, and now that he has they think their safe.

Their needs to be Bat-whoopings when he returns. Even though he does some scary shit himself.
