Super Robin Boy Wonder
I don't think I've ever seen this issue of Robin scanned before, or even mentioned, which is...a shame. A damned darned dirty shame. Somebody needed to share this glorious gem. I suppose I'm it.

These scans come from Robin #141, very soon after the introduction of Warlock's Daughter. She contacts Tim Drake for assistance in tracking down Robin so that she can kill him, so that she and Tim can be together forever. But never fear! Tim has a plan. A brilliant, brilliant plan. A plan which requires identity porn help from a friend.

Backstory: The War Games storyline resulted in the death of Tim's friend Darla Aquista, who happened to be the daughter of a mob boss, and who also happened to be more than a little hot for Tim. She was shot, and died despite his best attempts to revive her. Her dad dragged her decaying corpse all over the world, trying to find a way to bring her back from the dead. Johnny Warren, aka Johnny Warlock, brought her back at the expense of her father's life, and sent her out to kill Robin (who cost him his hand, at an earlier point, and is the subject of really a hilarious amount of terror on Johnny's part).

I'm not sure why Darla (who is calling herself Laura Fell, at this point) decided Tim was the guy to help her, but she tracked him to Bludhaven and begged him for help. Timmy's a nice guy, so he helps out. He starts by "figuring out" that there's been more than one Robin.

So Tim uses his Totally Normal If Slightly Geeky Boy computer skills to set up a meet with Robin over a superhero bulletin board, and invites Darla for a roof-top picnic. While he's got her alone, he tries to talk her out of committing murder. And then look who shows up!

I'm normally really not a fan of this artist, but I love how this page is laid out. "Robin's" body language and Darla's movements behind Tim's back crack me up every time.

Oh no! Robin! Blown up and thrown off a roof! He must be toast! Unless... Well, it all depends on who Tim picked to play Robin, right? So, who got into Robin's tights?

Daaww.  I wish the art was better, here. I would make so many icons. Those middle two panels both make me laugh and fill me with warm fuzzies.

Boys boys boys...They are so manly with their BFFness!

When Kon gets back from the future and meets Red Robin, he's going to be all like..."Dude! WTF?" He should then give him a hug and a wedgie, and I'm not sure in which order.

See, this is why superheroes need to have friends, Tim. You're going down the Batman route now, but that just means your friends have to work twice as hard. It's much better if you just do this to begin with. The isolation thing gets boring--Batman's proof of that, that's why he's surrounded by people all the time while he pretends he's a loner.

And there's never anything better than a good example of superheroes/friends getting to imitate each other and being mildly insulting/teasing about it. "That one's built like an athlete" indeed, Tim!

the greatest, manliest, most magnificent super hero of them all.

Ahahahaha. ILU Tim. <3

As glad as I was to see Kon in "Robin", I absolutely hate Willingham's writing, and the whole thing seems so... contrived (I know, comic book). I collected the book for a whole decade and then quit over BW.

Still, <3 Tim and Conner

So, who got into Robin's tights?

Let's face it, it's probably not the first time Conner's been there XD

And when they get back to the Nest, he can get into Robin's tights while he's in Robin's tights.

*snorfle* Oh yeah. I bet Tim played that game with Steph as well, but he didn't have as much fun XD

So Conner and Tim just happen to have a Robin costume cut to fit Conner, who as was pointed out is much larger and more muscular than Tim? Uh-huh, sure.

Unless it was left over from the Teen Titan's "Robin Day," where the whole team went around in Robin costumes. Then I can dig it. (They had a "Starfire Day" the next week. Wrap your head around that one.)

Well, it is spandex, I'd assume that there's a little bit of leeway in who it can fit (or all else failing, remove some layers of kevlar, Kon is mostly invincible after all)

Of course they have a Robin costume that fits Kon. They also have a Superboy costume that fits Tim. Because it's just not identity porn without kinky roleplay sex. Oh, God... I have got to go to bed. Just ignore me now... stupid Tim/Kon-shipping brain... stupid lack of sleep... *headdesk*

Tim and Kon could both stand to benefit from a few acting classes. I mean, Tim with his "I don't believe it!" and "I'm speechless!", and Kon with his muscleman poses and "Greetings, citizens." Naturalism is not much in evidence here. I think we can all be grateful that Kon didn't choose to flex his Shakespearian muscles:

Kon: What ho, good citizens! Of what assistance can I be to thee?

Darla: Wait, THAT'S not Robin! You tricked me!

Tim: No no, he is! He's just, uh, been under a lot of, uh, stress lately, that's all.

Darla: Stress that makes him talk like Bertie Wooster gone literary?

Kon: Hey! Um... I mean... Forsooth!

Tim: Well, er, you know, everyone deals with stress in, um, their own way, and... stuff...

Kon: I art not stressed! I am Robin, protector of all good-hearted folk!

Darla: Tim, you have five seconds to convince me before I blast you into bloody gobbets.

Kon: Gadzooks! Who be this hellbeast, o strapping villein, and why hast thou summoned she? Uh, her... no, she.

Tim (under his breath): Kon, so help me, I'm gonna invest in a pair of Kryptonite brass knuckles if we get out of this, you see if i don't.

Kon: Zounds!

This? This is awesome. I would give you an internets but we seem to be all out.

Contrary to the OP, I rather like the art. Mcdaniel's stuff is wholly dynamic and while he's not the greatest at making characters distinctive, the emotion is expressive in their body language and faces.

While hugging, deliver the wedgie.

They make Robin outfits in all shapes and sizes. Don't believe me, just ask Lois Lane.

Tim and Kon and yay! How did I not know of this? They're awesome together!

I also look forward to the first Kon and Red Robin team-up. Hopefully it will play out like your version. (I vote for hug first. Then after the wedgie, Tim becomes happy again! And they joke and eat lollipops and have fun adventures together!)
