EXTRA! EXTRA! Read All It! Daily Bugle, Late Edition!
Greetings True Believers! I found this "Daily Bugle" newspaper stuck in with my pull-list and I thought I'd share a few news stories from the MU circa 1939. These were rather amusing and I hope everyone enjoys them!

Proteus vs. Wolverine: Shreds of Humanity
Greetings True Believers! I'm here again. This is the back-up story from Classic X-Men #32. It's called "Shreds of Humanity" and it stars Proteus, Wolverine and Nightcrawler. But it's really about Wolverine. I was going to post it for the OPM week but Photobucket scanblocked me. This story is so bad-ass so I'm going to post it anyway.

The tale is set during the X-Men's epic battle with the mutant villain Proteus. (One the defining moments of Marvel's merry Mutants, as one of their main purposes is to not only protect mutants from the rest of humanity but to protect the human race against out-of-control mutants.) This story is also prime Wolverine. Before he was overexposed, on million teams and suffed from the "god" syndrome. (Like Batgod, Wolviegod, Supergod.) He was one of the strongest characters of the X-Men's second generation. He was a grown man, bitter and jaded. He had no past and did not fully embrace the X-Men's peaceful philosophy. He loved Jean and his "rival" relationship with Scott gave us one of comicdom's truly great love triangles. He was a gruff older brother to Nightcrawler and Colossus. A threat to members like Iceman and Angel, a fellow rogue to members like Banshee and Thunderbird. Wolvie in his prime was a lot of different things but he was always pure bad-ass, which this post shows. Enjoy!

X-Factor #116
Title: X-Factor #116: Homecomings (Marvel Comics, 1995, 23 pages)
Creators: Howard Mackie (writer), Steve Epting (pencils)
Availability: Out of print.

A couple of months back, timemonkey requested scans of non-Austen Northstar and Polaris meeting. So, in keeping with my "I only bought this because it had Northstar in it" posting tendencies, here's a run-in between Alpha Flight and X-Factor. That's right, you lucky people! You're getting some 90's-era Howard Mackie goodness!

For all that I've complained -- and will continue to complain -- that damn near every writer to come along has an exasperating tendency to confuse reminding us that Northstar likes men with actual character development, Northstar is still way better off than Aurora in the characterization department. Whereas Northstar's been given some positive traits over the years, his sister's defining characteristics always reset to her being two flavors of crazy (boy and batshit) and, if someone was feeling really creative, occasionally bitchy or an abuse victim.

Howard Mackie did not buck the trend, but at least he didn't get overly creative.

Aurora and Wild Child show up in the Weapon X series a few years later. He's uglier than before, and she's a crazy bitch. Oh yeah, and in an abusive relationship with Weapon X's director. *sigh*

Amazing Spider-man 598, The Power of Harry eyelashes
Harry get in touch with his inner beauty. I swear, look at the third panel, look like he checking himself out in the mirror wondering if beauty enough, and those lips. I like the artist athough. Also is it me or everyone with has a Great Teacher Onizuka face, you know, the one with the lips when someone is trying to look pissed but funny.

Norman Osborn breaks mad, and Dr. Richards goes a-realizing
so, when last we left the Fantastic Four, Norman Osborn and Venom and a bunch of mooks showed up at the Baxter Building, where Reed Richards was reality-diving to see if any other configuration of reality could've headed off the events that've passed.

And now... another Reed sums up his findings.  )

Super Robin Boy Wonder
I don't think I've ever seen this issue of Robin scanned before, or even mentioned, which is...a shame. A damned darned dirty shame. Somebody needed to share this glorious gem. I suppose I'm it.

These scans come from Robin #141, very soon after the introduction of Warlock's Daughter. She contacts Tim Drake for assistance in tracking down Robin so that she can kill him, so that she and Tim can be together forever. But never fear! Tim has a plan. A brilliant, brilliant plan. A plan which requires identity porn help from a friend.

Marvel Adventures Iron Man #11
Title: Marvel Adventures Iron Man #11 (Marvel, 2009, 32 pages)
Creators: Fred Van Lente (writer), Graham Nolan (pencils)
Availability: Available In Trade

Though they are on my PB, these aren't actually my scans. Ordinarily I'd feel worse about the yoink, but...well...

FRED VAN LENTE WROTE MORE OLD SCHOOL ALPHA FLIGHT! FRED VAN LENTE WROTE MORE OLD SCHOOL ALPHA FLIGHT!

And I did not know of this. Pardon me whilst I squee.

I <3 them and all their dysfunction so very much.

You think we could get Van Lente working on an Alpha Flight: First Class now that he's done with Wolverine's book?

Screwed by the Syndicate
LI'L ABNER never drew me in. Some of the concepts were imaginative, and several of the characters have an iconic status, but the writing always seemed mean-spirited and unpleasant to me. The strip left a bad aftertaste mentally, which is too bad, since I can see a lot of good ideas in it. Anyway, see if this 1947 sequence showing two cartoonists being misused by the Squeezeblood Syndicate don't remind you of Siegel and Shuster. It's not something fans necessarily see, but the writing and drawing are only half of the comics trade; there's a good deal of wheeling and dealing, manuevering and scheming going on if the creators are ever going to make a living. And it's seldom fair. A lot of minimally-talented people have been well-off because they knew how to haggle (Bob Kane might be a good example), while some artistic geniuses never got their fair share (Jack Kirby comes to mind).

Halt! Sit! Stay!
Awww heck with it!

It's Party Time across the cosmos as the Guardians of the Galaxy get caught smack dab between the Imperial Guard and the Inhumans. The Guardians are throwing a rave and everyone wants to "dance".

Awesome oozes right out the screen like liquid fire plasma, goes into your eyeballs and melts your brain, leaving only Awesome in the form of a glowing sea corral in the shape of your brain behind!

Set phasers on full, arm photon torpedoes, raise shields and trip the light fantastic. Bring the noise!!!

Interviews of Future Spiderman stories on His Love life and Ben Reilly
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=21667 Interview of the webheads discussing Spidey future love life, Ben Reilly, the return of MJ, what happened in that new timeline and other things that can either make you happy or just piss you off. I indeed threw a fit over the MJs covers, I hated the one with the spidey cupid despite being cute, Lily shouldnt be there, she's not fit to shine MJ shoes, Felicia should be in that bubble. Oh yeah, Mj's douchebag celeb boyfriend with the paparazzi arc is there in that cover too.

for lega purposes, for ben reilly fans.
