Could this be the END of CAPTAIN RAPTOR?!
GUYS! GUYS! GUYS! GUYS!

I... I am giddy. I am delirious with joy. I was browsing in the children's section of the public library today and I just discovered what may just be the bestest thing ever.

There are two books, I have chosen to scan the opening to the second book, Captain Raptor and the Space Pirates, because DID YOU NOT READ THE TITLE SPACE PIRATES!

!!!

The title of the post comes from the fact that every fifth page or so ends on a cliffhanger with the ship crashing or a giant space plesiosaur attacking and the caption "Could this be the END of CAPTAIN RAPTOR?!"

IS THIS NOT THE BESTEST THING EVER IF YOU SAY NO I WILL NOT BELIEVE YOU YOU ARE MISTAKEN.

Styracosaurus just has the LOOK of a wise elder statesman, don't it?

I'd elect one over many we have in office. I'd elect a fossilized one over many we have in office. It's debatable whether the difference would be noticed however.

Hence, why the boss on the Jim Henson Dinosaurs TV show was a Styracosaur.

Which was detracted from by having him voiced by George Jefferson, but still ...

Looks more a Lambeosaur with that crest on it's head. But it's a Lambeosaur with A FRIKKIN' LASER BEAM ON ITS HEAD!

Nope, that's definitely an Oviraptor. Cap Rap seems to have an all-theropod crew.

OMG, in the first place, look at those two little dinosaurs in their little robot car. It almost reminds me of a Flintstones car. Actually, this whole damn thing is like an inverted version of the Flinstones. Whereas humans were stuck in the stone age, dinosaurs have high-tech gadgets.

And look at their little hats! And outfits! This is the most awesome comic ever.

This vaguely reminds me of a book series that used to be in the library of my elementary school. 'Captain Toad', I think it was called. It was about an amphibian adventurer that roamed the galaxy righting wrongs. Nothing as cool as a space-traveling dinosaur, but it was pretty fun stuff - one book, I remember, had the heroes saved from a giant alien sea serpent by the token female crewmember, who happened to be a trained opera singer - and sea monsters LOVE opera, apparently. If you run across any of them, you should check it out.
And just a thought - before the last page had fully loaded and I saw the wings, I thought that spaceship was actually a zeppelin. So I thought 'whoa, SWEET, a dinosaur who travels through space in a zeppelin!' My hopes were dashed, obviously, by the rest of the page, but I maintain that, had I been right, that would have multiplied the coolness factor by ten.
Also, good to know that I'm not the only one here who looks in the kid's section. Where else am I supposed to find my Freddy the Pig books?

Eh, whoops, looks like I was wrong - I looked it up, and it is COMMANDER Toad, not Captain. And the books are by Jane Yolen, so it's no wonder they're good.
