WHO WATCHES THE BOTCHMEN??
There have been numerous "WATCHMEN" parodies, since the original comic in 1985 up until the movie in 2009; this is one of the more clever ones from MAD MAGAZINE:

Compared to the other Mad parody of Watchmen that was posted here a while back, this thing is comic GOLD.
And that is some excellent art.
Agreed. The first thing that struck me, before the great writing in comparison to most Mad Parodys, was the art. It's part panel copy, part Glenn Farby (on a good day).
It actually is Glenn Fabry, isn't it?
I'd say it is. Anyone know for definite?
Really excellent art. Good composition, too.
You know what's odd, though? Both parodies were written by Desmond Devlin, who is IMHO about the only MAD writer these days who's actually funny, especially when satirizing comics. On the old s_d I posted some brilliant parodies he did of Sandman: Endless Nights and Cathy as if written by Frank Miller.
Maybe Devlin wrote the movie parody on an off day, or was strictly instructed not to deviate from the formula of "just say over and over how bad and stupid the movie is", which is what basically every MAD movie parody has consisted of for the last 20 years.

Hot damn, if Frank Miller started actually writing Cathy I'd be forced to start liking Cathy and Frank Miller. The universe would collapse.
It is odd that the same guy wrote both. Based on the other, I had thought the writer hadn't even read Watchmen, or probably even seen the movie. The awful "amusement-park-caricature-artist"-style art didn't help it much.
Imma gunna hafta find those other parodies now, because this stuff is refreshingly funny.
This is leaps and bounds funnier than the usual MAD fare!
Just amazing, whoever made this, they're AWESOME!

That was good. Loved the ending :D
My favorite part is faux-Rorschach announcing his intention to "stand around making strange noises until I get on your nerves."
I love the patterns on his mask face, and Laurie's "Let's ruin it right away!" line.
"Can you believe this is the best plan the world's smartest man could come up with?"
Brilliant! XD And, I admit it, something about the rubber ducky in the toilet made me crack right up. not!Dan clutching his costume to his chest with that WTF-did-I-just-do? look on his face is great, too.
Much better than the other parody that was posted.
The sequence in the jail is particularly great. "Dammit, we have to have a unifying theme before we kill him!"
The more I look at that panel with the merchandise, the funnier it gets. I think it's because it simultaneously depicts 'Watchmen' fans' fondest dreams and most horrible nightmares. I mean, on the one hand, it's a terrible cheapening of one of the best, deepest and most complex comics ever written, but on the other - A RORSCHACH PLUSHIE! Little flying Owlships! Me want! (Plus - 'I am NUTTY 4 U.' Hee hee!) |
